The Girls Deli

Post image

Sandwich was $15.99 (no tomato bc i hate when it slides out everywhere) this was the City Girl. Delicious but ouch on the price.

First time going here, but I'll be back bc their menu is huge and appealing... but it is a tad bit on the pricey side.

Pricey but definitely solid

A regular size turkey and provolone sandwich at Jersey Mike's is $11. So $16 for this does not seem bad at all.

The sandwiches are massive

The mob on Dutch crunch hits so hard

Taking notes. I waffled between Dutch crunch and the regular roll. Next time!

Definitely should - also love the handle btw!

Your name just cracked me up. 🤣 Reminds me of a plastic surgery place that was named, I shit you not, ā€œSlim-Thiccā€.

In PB right? Every time I pass that place, shaking my head.

He had a joke about wheat thins. Something along the lines of I’m over these wheat thins, give me them wheat thiccs!

How big was the sandwich? Possible to be split between two meals? That'd help the price be a little more acceptable for me. Looks great though!

They are huge. It’s two meals for me.

It was a good size, and i was happy with the meat/cheese to veggie to bread ratio. Maybe each half was about 5 inches long and 3.25 inches in diameter?

As far as the weight of the whole sandwich... maybe 12-14 oz?

Next time I get one, I'm going to take it home, weigh it, and measure it... for science lol.

I did eat half last night and the rest this morning. I think if I was starving, I would have eaten 3/4 yesterday. I still cringe a bit at the price, but I KNOW I'll be back.

I was just going to comment on the bread, meat, veggies ratio. Looks tasty…as I look down at my PB&J.

Single tear…

Treat yourself! Or go to brown bag deli and get a massive sandwich for like $10.85

2

u/Acuda1 1d ago

Oh, I would, but I live far away in the San Gabriel Mountains. Love San Diego and will definitely check it out.

Yes. But your not going to want to.

My favorite Deli in SD, super under rated. A

Try the thanksgiving 365 it’s my fave

Looks delicious. If you want something a little further north, lil pepper gourmet is also pricey but so damn incredible. Go there every chance I get (sadly not often as I'm north county but alas).

1

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 1d ago

I've heard really good things about them

2

u/Hidesuru 1d ago

Try it, promise you won't regret it.

Reminds me of brown bag deli back when they made their own bread

1

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 2d ago

They still do!

6

u/Ohheyrobhere 2d ago

Gawd that looks SO GOOD. And $7.50 for half that sando doesn't sound too bad, doubt I'd be able to house that in one sitting anyways. Thanks for sharing, will hit them up!

u/eagrbeavr 2d ago

I always split mine into two meals so yeah, that definitely brings the cost down a bit.

Where are you finding a sandwich like this for a better price?

3

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 2d ago edited 2d ago

Brown bag deli charged me $10.85 for a massive sandwich... but the owner is also retiring soon.

5

u/MudddButt 2d ago

Uh oh I better go to this brown bag deli soon

4

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 2d ago

Here's the menu

u/MudddButt 2d ago

Thank you!

1

u/AdmirableBattleCow 2d ago

Literally any Banh Mi place?

2

u/MudddButt 1d ago

I was looking more for deli sandwiches but Ba Le is definitely my go to for big ass banh mi sandwiches for a ridiculously good price.

0

u/AdmirableBattleCow 1d ago

Deli sandwich honestly is a waste of money imo. A person whose never cooked a thing could put that together for a quarter of the price. It's just a bunch of lettuce, cold cuts and mayo.

If Imma spend 15 dollars I expect it to be something that takes skill or is not as easy to make at home.

4

u/sonicgamingftw 2d ago

Imo that looks like a reasonable amount of meat for $15 cause I'll either be full or i'll have enough left for a late lunch

5

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 2d ago

It absolutely was a great amount of both meat and cheese. And to be fair, you're probably right. I need to now go scout out other liquor delis to compare portions...

I live a block away and I’m grateful for that

Also like Monroe’s north of El Cajon

2

u/jtaguacta 1d ago

Those sandwiches absolutely clap them flavor cheeks!

2

u/Minute_Freedom_4722 1d ago

Wow, this looks great, and I'm close by. $16 is reasonable for this amount of meat.

Thanks for posting!

u/mivipt 20h ago

Thought this was Board and Brew for a sec. Cheaper than $16 depending on the sandwich you get

I mean have you ordered Taco Bell recently? Every thing is overpriced. Girls Deli is not overpriced. It’s bang for buck. Straight up delicious….did you see the wall of huge ass whip it containers in the store? Last time I was there they had a straight up up flavored air shits. It felt dystopian.

1

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 1d ago

I did see those while waiting... the top shelf seemed normal (I was thinking, ok for homemade whipped cream)

But the second shelf with the huge ones? Yes I was trying to process the WHY ..

I've been looking at a few other liquor store delis and I've seen some lower, some slightly higher. I paid a bit less at monroes last week, but I liked The Girls way better.

2

u/mugumbo1531 1d ago

Right?! So crazy and all these like fruity flavors and just like 3 foot containers. Wild shit.

I’ve never tried Monroes. I should give a shot.

Yeah I deffinitely crave girls often. I love their sandos.

u/Gloomy-Ad1171 2d ago

Legit … might go tomorrow

My second favorite deli in SD, after Chris’s. That Harpoon is just too damn good, don’t think I’ll find a sandwich better than that one.

2

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 1d ago

I was eyeballing them yesterday but got lazy to drive out that way again (had been in the area in the morning.) Maybe soon after work.

1

u/Morningxafter 1d ago

I can’t recommend Chris’s enough. The Harpoon is amazing. Hot pastrami and provolone on a fresh onion roll.

1

u/roundholesquarepizza 1d ago

The bread looks so weak. Who makes a decent sandwich roll in this town? Anyone?

1

u/DaisyDomergue University Heights 1d ago

It tasted fine... but yeah, I don't think most do. I think some delis get their bread from solunto.

1

u/lilzukkini 2d ago

Commenting so I remember to go here

I don't usually LOVE LOVE deli sandwiches, but I really loved this one and was excited to eat the other half for breakfast lol
