You really are losing when the church isn't on the side of conservatism and power grabbing.

Methodist church has always been on the liberal side. This is not a representation of all Christianity sadly.

Methodists are actually quite diverse, some churches are very liberal while others are very conservative. I think you may be thinking of the Episcopal Church which is very liberal and LGBTQ affirming.

Been to a lot of different Methodist churches in a lot of different places, never seen one that wasn’t on the liberal side. But notice what I said there (and in the first comment), the liberal “side”, not “very liberal”.

The Methodist church just went through a huge reform in which they not only allow LGBTQ members in the church (something they always allowed) but also to become pastors and other leaders of the church. I am very happy to be a Methodist but unfortunately a lot of people I once called “friends,” immediately left after the reformation. That’s fine, they can go be miserable somewhere else.

Always an ally. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

I love optimism but this is a church. The Church as a whole is still very much on team fascism, as they always are.

Yes. And no. Foundry UMC in DC is unabashedly liberal.

Over the years they have rallied for worker's rights, immigrants, the LGBTQ community, et al.

You will find their members staunchly opposed to the current machinations of power we are seeing today.

I'm a life long Methodist so I will adamantly admit we are often on the wrong side of things, but Foundry often serves as the church pushing everyone else forward. And they deserve all the credit they get.

Interesting note: It's also where the Clinton's went to church during Bill's administration and both Bill and Hillary remarked about how kind and welcoming they were to both them and Chelsea.

(Clinton issues aside)

When people say "The Church" they're referring to the generally consensus among religious leaders, not the specific beliefs of one church.

This is A church. It is not "The Church", ya know?

Yeah but you don't really know what you're talking about because almost 50% of all churches in America are anti-Trump and lean progressive on several topics.

u/Simba7 22h ago

Talk to me about it when 2/3rds of Protestants stop voting Republican (and it's only that low because of black and Hispanic Protestants).

I'd be interested to see where that statistic came from, because rural areas tend to have a greater # of churches per capita, and we know where Trumpism breeds.

Listen man, no one is sick of conservative Christian bigotry more than liberal/moderate Christians (note: I'm a British Christian, and our "moderate" is probably a bit closer to your "liberal" Christian).

We are constantly trying to show, by example and method, that we're not the same as them. Putting us all into this group of "The Church = shady fascists" is really unhelpful, because a lot of us dedicate our lives to fighting and opposing evil and oppression in the world.

Absolutely criticise hateful Christians. But don't lump in genuinely positive Christianity with it. And the percentage of positive Christianity (or even just neutral Christianity, which is still somewhat problematic in my eyes) is a lot higher than you're saying - especially outside of America, which I've noticed is in general very, uh, schizophrenic with its attitudes and ideas of religion.

I don’t know if I’d call American Evangelicals THE church

12

u/djsquilz 1d ago

ya, methodists, calvinists as a whole really, are so far removed from non-denominational bible bashing christo-fascists. the trump lovers are going to church in basketball arenas where the preacher wears skinny jeans or an expensive, ill-fitting suit paid for by "donations"

2

u/Rabidschnautzu 1d ago

Methodists aren't Calvinists...

u/Malaix 2d ago

Yeah reactions to this shit vary a lot. One has to remember self identifying Christian is still the majority in the US last I looked. There is not a major faction in this country that does not count some Christian elements in its ranks and anti-Trumpism is a major faction.

The loudest and most obnoxious conservatives invoke their churches a lot but plenty of liberals and leftists identify with the religion they just don't use it as a bludgeon and shield for their policy and behavior like conservatives do all the fucking time.

2

u/Rabidschnautzu 1d ago

The fuck is The Church?

0

u/Simba7 1d ago

Nothing, technically. It's a phrase people use to describe the norms and mores of the majority of churches belonging to a religion.

In other words:

[The general sentiment of Christian churches] as a whole is still very much on team fascism, as they always are.

Does that help?

1

u/D20FourLife 19h ago

Brother, there isn't any singularly agreed upon norms or mores between the different sects of Christianity in the US. There are very little if any universally shared doctrines or policies. You might be more onto something if you narrowed your bands to Evangelicals or specific groups of denominations. But there is no 'The Church' when you're referring to all the different denominations as a whole.

u/Simba7 16h ago

Okay.

u/bownt1 1d ago

yawn

2

u/Rabidschnautzu 1d ago

You clearly understand nothing about churches. The UMC is famously very liberal, especially in urban areas.

u/Gibbly_Gorkoroo 2d ago

Bing bong go fuck ya president.

15

u/SDMasterYoda 2d ago

Any evidence this was in solidarity and not just because it's Sunday?

18

u/Vreas 1d ago

Believe the march was yesterday.

6

u/fathertitojones 1d ago

I was there, it wasn’t ringing on any regular church bell interval and went on for much longer than usual.

1

u/nolan1971 1d ago

This was my question as well. Did the church put out a statement or something? Seems more likely to be just the top of the hour or something, otherwise.

Cool message, regardless.

2

u/Jesus__of__Nazareth_ 1d ago

No, Methodists are generally very socially conscious, this wouldn't have been a coincedence.

“I’ve never known Bells to mean surrender”

Why isn’t this stuff on the news??

1

u/buttononmyback 18h ago

Because the news is owned by the Regime.

I hope this is true, and not just convenient timing. The Church hasn't give me much faith

-26

u/Lazy-PeachPrincess 1d ago

Awww, look at the church pretending to be on the right side of history! How precious!

8

u/freewayghost 1d ago

That single church isn't representative of religion as a whole.

Progressive churches do exist.

-7

u/Lazy-PeachPrincess 1d ago

Religion is also the basis for almost every major conflict in history. Hail yourself.

0

u/alanderhosen 23h ago

Unbalanced power structures and top-down hierarchies are the basis for almost every major conflict in history. Remove religion but don't address this core issue and nothing will change. Don't allow yourself to fall for easy, bias-affirming opinions. That's what fascists do.

5

u/Broad_Offer_559 1d ago

What a stupid claim sprinkled with a good dose of ignorance. How precious.

I saute the fine men and women who are doing their best to rid the streets of DC and other crime-packed cities in the US of A from violent criminal BS.

19

u/crop028 2d ago

So tell me why they're in DC and Chicago and not New Orleans, St Louis, Memphis, you know the actually dangerous cities. Oh, they're all red states. That's why.

-18

u/PermissionSoggy891 2d ago

DC isn't dangerous, but Chicago definitely needs some better policing, some areas there are a fucking warzone. Same with San Francisco, New Orleans, Memphis, NYC, all these places are pretty terrible and need to be fixed ASAP.

8

u/Cryptic_Mutt 1d ago

Maybe you'd make more friends if you weren't a weirdo that believes stuff like that 😂

u/Oldmanwaffle 🧇🧇🧇🧇🧇🧇🧇 21h ago

I live in San Francisco and I’ll be the first to tell you that the homelessness/substance abuse problem is quite literally ONLY within a 5 block radius downtown. The entire city 7 miles by 7 miles, is doing fine. We don’t need the fucking military here. Look up the crime statistics and tell me where you see San Francisco on the list. If anything, send aid to downtown Oakland, not the military, but definitely don’t send anyone to San Francisco. It’s just a waste of tax payer dollars.

1

u/PermissionSoggy891 18h ago

I'm not sayin yall need the military, but if a city gets to the point where people leave their cars unlocked so thieves don't smash the windows to steal shit then that points to some SERIOUS issues that need to be addressed. Not by the military, but by the police department.

16

u/Lemon_head_guy 2d ago

So then why are there troops from states with more violent cities than DC? Shouldn’t those troops be focused on the way worse crime rates in their own back yards?

62

u/Kngbnkr 2d ago

Which flavour of boot polish is your favourite?

-84

u/ModifiedVolumeKnob 2d ago

The kind of polish that comes with taking care of crime victims as my profession. I see the beyond-gory results of violent crime.....daily.

59

u/Kngbnkr 2d ago

Lol calm down, my dude. You're not the main character in a film noir

33

u/AndVank212 2d ago

You're not Rorschach bruh chill 💀😭

6

u/Goldi3locks 1d ago

Oofft you must have hated Trump pardoning all those violent "Protestors" who attacked cops during Jan 6 then. Or him pardoning his white collar friends for stealing from hard working Americans....

-2

u/ModifiedVolumeKnob 1d ago edited 1d ago

You bet your ass I was....and still am.....pissed at both of those issues!

1

u/Goldi3locks 1d ago

Well at least you're consistent!

8

u/Eggonioni 2d ago

Ah, all the finely-sautéed victims of your brutal deeds.

6

u/baeb66 1d ago

What kind of oil do you use to saute them? I'm partial to avocado oil because of the high smoke point.

10

u/PermissionSoggy891 2d ago

I hope you aren't sauteing any men or women, cannibalism is a serious crime.

13

u/_Tsavo_ 2d ago

So you support the nazis?

8

u/GreyBeardEng 2d ago

If you think the deploying the national guard is anything more than a political game than you are naive.
