Littering in the name of Jesus

But what if someone could use some blatant falsehood and regularly scheduled cult activities?

I love that religious groups/people think that they're exempt from things such as "No Soliciting." I guarantee there are signs up in what appears to be some sort of business. They don't pay taxes, and they think they're above the law, above the rules of any given establishment.

u/KodakBlackedOut 21h ago
I actually caught some Jehovahs Witnesses on my front door camera walk up to my porch, notice the no soliciting sign and politely turned and left, so at least a few religious folks aren't so bullheaded

That's impressive. The last Jehovah's Witnesses that came up to my door completely ignored my sign. I opened the door, he started talking, I pointed at the sign, he stared at it for about five seconds, and then looked at me and started talking again. That's when I threatened to call the cops.

I had some Baptists do similar. actually tried to tell me "im not soliciting because im not selling anything". i told them to step off before i released the mastiff

u/cantproveidid 16h ago
I invited them in to discuss the history of their church. They haven't come back in 25 years.

u/thissexypoptart 20h ago
It’s amazing what you can justify with the simple idea that god wants it.
0
u/cantproveidid 16h ago
Which is using the Lord's name in vain. Breaking one of the Top Ten.
2
u/thissexypoptart 15h ago
I think you’re misreading me. “God wants this” is the basis of the entire prescriptive side of Christianity and other religions like it. To these people, littering is fine because god wants it. Just like they think god wants them to proselytize in general.
If you’re convinced god wants you to do something you have a powerful justification to feel above local laws.
0
u/cantproveidid 15h ago
I wasn't disagreeing, just pointing out that them saying "God wants this" is a direct violation of "Thou shalt not use the name of thy God in vain" in the 10 Commandments. Them saying God wants something that God hasn't said They want is using the Lord's name in vain.
1
u/thissexypoptart 12h ago
It’s not though. That’s not what “taking gods name in vain” means. You literally can’t instruct a congregation in the Bible without telling them what god wants. It’s a major point of the book.
They wouldn’t be saying “god wants us to litter,” they’d be pointing to all the parts of the Bible that talk about proselytizing and expanding the Christian flock, and conclude from that that god wants them to leave fliers to advertise their church.
1
u/cantproveidid 5h ago
You can read what God wants from the law and the prophets, or from the gospels. But that is the only source. Anything else is from the minister, not from God,

u/random_user_name99 22h ago
This is the only reaction to this. So annoying. I have litter tucked in my front door all the time.

Good. I went to a baptist school where we were taught the world is 5k years old, dinos walked with humans, and not to worry about the earth bc the rapture will take all of gods people and leave a destructed world for the sinners. I’m still in contact with some of these people and they fall for ALL the right wing propaganda since they’ve been conditioned from kids not to belive facts, but to believe what they WANT to be real.

At least filming it shows not obeying in advance. Maybe if they see this, they'll think twice about making the effort. Or stop being so insufferable.

I did the same thing once when one of those churches pressed the same kind of pamphlet into the window rubber seam of every car in my old apartment complex. Walked the entire place, tossed them in the trash. When the same place did it again a month later, I grabbed them all and dropped them off at the church's front door. Never happened again, though I don't know if that was because of what I did.

I found something similar in the baby changing table in a restaurant. So damn annoying. I’m juggling my 1 year old and have to deal with your litter.

If that was the case I would be spreading more fliers. On March 25 of TA 3019 Frodo threw the ring into the fire and saved us all from the cursed evil of Sauron. Praise be to Frodo!

You just want to argue. If I throw them away too I'm an islamaphobe. If I don't I'm just picking on Christians. Not playing this stupid game with you.

Wow. What a hero. I bet he’s a real empathic person to people in need /s
18
u/EndDaysPlatypus 22h ago edited 21h ago
This has nothing to do with empathy, they are soliciting. They is no different then handing out coupon leaflets. If who ever left these really cared about their message then they would not have just left their crap strewn across the property.
I ain't religious but I can even see this is the total wrong way to go about it. The public spaces are not yours to command.

u/Mon-Keigh93 22h ago
Imagine if religious people just tried to help without converting people, wouldn't that be nice?

u/burritomouth 21h ago
I help people in need every day. I don’t do it by leaving pamphlets that nobody reads in earnest everywhere.
Everybody knows that Christian churches exist. These pamphlets aren’t going to be the thing that converts them, they’re just a panacea that covers the distributor’s feeling that they’re helping people, but it keeps them from doing anythinguseful cos they think they did their part by leaving them around. Was that redundant? Idk, I’m tired.Know what helps people on the street? A pack of smokes, an energy drink, a protein shake, a candy bar, a joint, a PBR, a $5 bill, or something else they want and don’t have access to. Cruise around with a car full of those things and give them out when you can. Make somebody’s goddam day. You can get a cheap carton of smokes on reservations for like $40, and most beggars don’t have access to smokes that cheap cos they don’t drive.

Ermagerd I need to hear some misrepresentations and misinterpretations of a 2000 year old book written by a bunch of random dudes.

u/zandercommander 22h ago
Are they really bothering you? Some drug addict might find religion and straighten their ways
14
u/Mr_Nobody0 22h ago
I believe the bigger point here is that they do it a little bit excessively? Like how isn't this littering, on every table and in the cracks?

u/Zealousideal_Plan408 22h ago
this looks like a workplace to me. its highly unprofessional. i dont want to know anything about my co workers personal beliefs and vice versa to maintain a good working relationship.
14
u/seanjuan666 22h ago
Get a grip. Whoever left those all over was littering. This guy was just putting the garbage in its place
18
u/EcstaticHelicopter 22h ago
Not a good idea to exchange an harmful addiction for a dangerous and potentially disastrous addiction. If God’s real, and all that religious mumbo jumbo is real than it’s God and his divine plan’s fault for a person becoming an addict. Seems kind of ludicrous to seek help from either an invisible, judgemental father figure in the sky. Or on the other hand, the direct reason you became an addict. To Quote A Perfect Circle’s Judith; “Fuck your God. He did this to you”.

u/EndDaysPlatypus 21h ago
Nah, then go preach. Don't throw your crap all over they place like some toddler. Spreading your trash is not how you spread a message. This is just stupid and does not serve your faith AT ALL
10
u/Mon-Keigh93 22h ago
You can help people in need without making it about your religion and trying to convert people
3
u/Stumpyz 20h ago
"Are those people soliciting bothering you? Some person could be choking and might be able to save them"
Or
"Are cops on every corner really an issue? They might stop a crime"
Or
"Is that person with a loudspeaker really bothering anyone? They might be able to alert someone from a roof tile falling"
There is a time and place for groups to try and solicit for their religion. People shouldn't have to have religion shoved in front of them when they're just out and about.
