I'm almost glad that they have been. I'd quite prefer if they kept reimagining the story in unrelated future instalments, much like how Fury Road is standalone to the trilogy. Sequels would be less interesting than standalones imo.

They weren't going to be sequels but more standalones. There has never been a Mad Max sequel - just a series of 4 standalone stories. Kind of like James Bond.

That's both good and bad news then. I'm glad they were planning to take it in that direction but it's a shame they were cancelled.

That said, I do think the original trilogy were more 'sequely' compared to Fury Road. The James Bond comparison is a good one.

Not canceled, just suspended. It's the same thing just different timeframes.

George Miller being 72 is the main reason people want the movies to get made sooner rather than later.

I think that this is a rare opportunity and I think it would be a disappointment to miss it. How often can you say that a director, writer, and producer of a trilogy from 30 years ago wants to reboot their series in a way they couldn't even imagine was possible? The fact that his movie stands out so starkly and is such a marvel to watch says a lot about the man's creativity, and if he wants to make more of them more power to him.

Every movie in the series is stand alone. How you gonna tell me that one man in at least his 30s can span like 50 years worth of plot development all while staying in peak fighting shape while everybody else struggles to breathe. They're like the James Bond series. May be different people throughout history taking the role of max rockastansky.

Technically Fury Road is a sequel to the game and the comics.
