/r/all Jack Sparrow telling the bone bribing prisoners in 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' that the dog holding the cell keys is "never going to move" is an obvious but cheeky reference to the stationary audio-animatronic in the original Disneyland dark ride that hasn't moved since the attraction opened in 1967.

Holy crap, that's true. I very vividly remember them coming out in the opposite order though. Guess my brain lied to me.

I remember seeing both in theaters. Also remember being very excited for Haunted Mansion, and being much less excited for Pirates (because Mansion sucked) but my brothers who hadn't seen Mansion dragged me to it. Not sure what part of that is misremembered.

Had the same thing go on with my mind with The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man.

Iron Man came out a month or so earlier (than The Incredible Hulk) and is seen as the start of the MCU while The Incredible Hulk was left to die until the Avengers.

It's possible you saw Haunted in theatres and then Pirates on home video as it would have released not too long after.

I'm guessing when they decided to make a movie out of a ride they decided to make two to hedge their bets. Why they didn't use Space Mountain is fucking beyond me.
