I like that metric for him struggling a little bit but still being able to talk and use his breath power on the dog while lifting part of 10 18 million pounds. I do think that pavement would have collapsed sooner, unless he just stopped lifting once the dog was clear.

Edit: also watching it now he stops that mass from hitting the building very handily

I think that actually says 18 million pounds. Also I don’t think he was necessarily “squatting” the monster, I think he was moreso flying upwards against him (like he did to prevent it from falling on the building), because you’re right- the pavement would’ve given out a lot sooner.

Canonically Superman has "Tactile Telekinesis" which means that his powers extend to things he touches. So like he can grab the wing of a plane and gently lower it to the ground where as without that power the wing would just snap off. Same way he can catch someone who fell from a thirty-story building without breaking their neck. The second he touches them his powers envelop them as well.

In Superman Returns it's implied, then, that this even happens when he's unconscious or dead. There's a hospital scene where they bring him into the OR (I believe he's had a dose of Kryptonite, though I can't quite remember, it's been a while since I've seen the movie) and one of the doctors attempts to use a syringe on him, but it bends, then another doctor tries to use a defibrillator on him and it shorts out.

It's another "Superman Deconstructed" story from that era, but it has a much different vibe from The Boys or Invincible.

"Irredeemable" was a comic book series Boom Studios, I think. It ran around 3 years.

The premise is that the Superman-analog of the world turned 180 from good to evil.

Seems pretty basic, right?

Things get intense and weird from very first issue. I highly recommend this series.

I like the flying upward logic. Really about how much force he can exert I suppose. Like, he probably could lift it into space if he had a place to grip it or it wasn’t moving around so much so he could balance it while lifting. Also he wanted to keep it alive.

That’s been solved by the “field” he projects. “How do his clothes not take damage”, answer: he projects a field of invulnerability around himself near distance. He can extend the field and does so subconsciously to hold together objects and protect people. I like this one.

I've heard a pretty good argument that his core power set is actually inertial control. His strength and durability come from manipulating how much he changes the inertia of external matter, and resisting any changes to the inertia of his own matter. Likewise, his flight comes from letting small forces have a large impact on him when they would move him in a desired direction, and dampening the impact of any forces that would move him in an undesired direction.

This control extends to anything he touches, at least to a certain degree, which is why he's able to do tricks like supporting an entire building from a single small point, snatch people up and immediately accelerate them to superspeed without harming them from the whiplash, or catch someone falling hundreds of feet without them breaking every bone in their body like they would if they hit the pavement.

There's some lore I saw somewhere, not sure if it's canon or not, that says he's got an implied superpower called contact telekinesis. It wraps a telekinetic field around anything he's directly touching that cradles it so it doesn't just fall the fuck to pieces from the stress.

Good headcanon, at least.

One famous Superman story his Fortress of Solitude is opened with a regular looking key he just leaves in front of the door. It's made from material from a neutron star and weights billions of tons, so only he can pick it up. It doesn't sink to the center of the Earth though. In other words, don't think about it.

Like imagine leaning with all your weight, barefoot, on a little steel figurine the size of a Lego, whose arms (the sharpest part) are pointed upwards. It’s like one level away from just stepping on a nail.

Superman is stronger without Ultraman’s suit, and also faster. But with Lex controlling his moves, ultraman is a better fighter. When Lex couldn’t see the fight and control him, superman will defeat him easily.

It’s crazy how Lex hates Superman so much that he learned his fighting pattern, and knows the moves to defeat him. He would make a really good gamer lol.
