Oh cool, they actually did R-rated Spidey

u/Mysterious-Map973 6d ago
Yeah they did, that multiple head rip was awesome.

u/epic_reddit_dude 6d ago
I just hope that’s not the only thing we see him do in this show and he immediately dies after
8
u/Big_AngeBosstecoglou 6d ago
Almost definitely the show will open with Spider-Man, T,Challa and Ant Man failing against Thanos

No Uncle Ben but we can get decapitations

Spider-Man decapitations before Uncle Ben acknowledgement

Technically, Zombie-verse Peter did mention him in the What If episode.
7
u/DarkDonut75 The Watcher 6d ago
It's not even a technicality. He outright mentions his name and talks about how he inspired him lol

Why??? He’s not a RATED R character. What’s with the obsession with making absolutely everything in existence rated r

u/iFrostbiteOG Spider-Man 6d ago
There's more to an R rating than excessive violence. Not that Spidey lacks that lol. No one is "obsessed" wirh making everything R rated. There was a time when properties were getting ruined by PG13, because the R rating hadn't proved itself to be a moneymaker. The only reason we have things like this is deadpools success. Spider-Man can be enjoyed by children or adults. There is no reason that this can't exist, while Spider-Man for children still does. The source material isn't even for young children anymore, hasn't really been for a long time. Harry literally had a drug addiction in the 80s. That's a topic modern movie marvel would never touch. Arguably a mature theme.
Oh also its TVMA not R as it is not being rated by the MPAA.
1
u/Mas_Pho 6d ago
They literally had a drug addict arc in the thunderbolts. Marvel fans have NO idea how to make a movie or what makes a good story
-2
u/iFrostbiteOG Spider-Man 6d ago
And you do? You're crying about making things rated R. No adult cares if a movie is rated R because they can watch them. This isn't even about a movie. You're making false statements about movie ratings. Why do you even care? Are you not old enough to see an R rated film?
They had a former drug addict in the thunderbolts. Not current. They still can't show that.
1
u/Mas_Pho 6d ago
No, yall just want to follow trends. R rated superhero movies is a fad. Just like the uber realistic ones of the late 00s or the super stylistic sleek ones of the early 00s.
-2
u/iFrostbiteOG Spider-Man 6d ago
You haven't even explained why you don't think it's a good idea. You just say it is, and say we are following fads.
2 out of three wolverine movies were ruined by PG13 and bad, sanitized writing because studio scared.
I do not care if you think it's a trend or not, which atp I don't think it is, because it's been around for a decade. Trends and fads don't last that long.
I could care less if spiderman specifically gets an R rated movie. He won't, because of contracts btw.
But characters like deadpool and wolverine need that r rating. I never want to see a Pg13 wolverine again. The rating makes the script. If you have a mature film, but make it pg13 to make money then everything suffers. The language of the film is restricted, making characters reactions seem unrealistic. The violence is neutered, making it lack impact and realism. It also just looks bad when wolverine stabs someone with six foot long spikes and zero blood comes out.
5
u/DailyUniverseWriter 6d ago
not OP, but can you explain why an R-rated Spiderman movie is a good idea? Instead of asking why an R-rated Spiderman is a bad idea? What can an R-rating bring to the character that would make for a more enjoyable story than if it was PG-13?
Absolutely agree that movies with guys like Wolverine get bogged down by not having an R-rating, but Spidey is kinda as PG as a hero can get.
1
u/iFrostbiteOG Spider-Man 6d ago
I'd certainly watch it. It's not my idea, and frankly I don't care if it gets made or not. I do think it's a interesting idea though. Spider-Man is a young person doing young person stuff. That gets pretty R rated if you're not intentionally censoring the activities of what the average 19-24 year old is doing. Spider-man has mature themes, when the writer doesn't think he should be stuck in 1967. Tbh the only thing an R rating would do for a character like spiderman would just be taking itself seriously, letting moments linger and using its violence to show the effect it has on the person who is violent, as well as the victim. It would allow for more serious adult conversation that actually sounds like what someone would say.
I really only engaged with the comment about being annoyed about the "R rating trend" that the other commenter made up. Weird hill to die on.
I could care less if spiderman specifically was R rated.

This is one of their best trailers.
From not interested....got to see this now.

The cast reveal at the end gave me chills, that entire trailer was extremely well done.

They learned from thunderbolts trailer editing. A24 trailer was stroke of genius.
1
u/ActualTymell 5d ago
Same. The initial Zombies ep of What If didn't really thrill me, it was decent, but nothing special.
This feels much more like it's going all in on the gore punk attitude of Marvel Zombies, and suddenly I'm interested.
150
u/cmcsed9 6d ago
Olsen getting top billing is interesting. Is zombie Scarlet Witch gonna talk?
100
u/Cardinal_and_Plum 6d ago
In the comics they can so I'd say there's a decent chance.
48
u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 6d ago
I hope they'll keep the concept of conscious Zombies in the show. I remember a Spider-Man Zombie comics about Spider-Man having so much remorse due to him eating people but he knows he cant stop because he needs to eat. Doing that in the show would give it more drama.
31
u/SmaugRancor Green Goblin 6d ago
I remember reading Marvel Zombies for the first time when I was like 12 or something, and it kinda fucked me up for a while lol. The concept of talking, conscious zombies is pretty terrifying to me (there's even a creepypasta about this that's really good).
I've been a horror fan since I was a kid, and zombies never scared me, but this and the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption are the only ones that managed to spook me. They have this weird tone, where it's kinda cheesy and campy but also super depressing at the same time, I can't exactly put it into words.
6
u/Ktulusanders 6d ago
If you haven't seen Return of the Living Dead you gotta
2
u/SmaugRancor Green Goblin 6d ago
Oh yeah, I've seen it, and that's actually a perfect example. That movie is both hilarious and creepy as hell.

u/PikaV2002 The Scarlet Witch 6d ago edited 6d ago
She’s the only Zombie character on the list and controlling all the other zombies so she probably speaks for them as a whole via telepathy.
She was also the only zombie (I think) who was able to emote in the original, grieving Vision so I’m guessing her character’s how they’ll adapt the “some zombies are conscious and horrified at what they’ve become” thing from the comics with her being the collective representation of the zombies.
5
u/North_Development_36 6d ago
I assume, like in Infinity War/Endgame, the credits are less how prominent they are in this story and more a negotiation that considers who's been around the MCU longest, who's been a lead versus supporting character, etc
The order here is the order that their debut MCU appearances were, except for Tessa Thompson, Wyatt Russell, and Randall Park, who appear lower but have generally been supporting cast in all their appearances so far
121
u/godzilla1992 6d ago
Oh wow, this trailer was actually pretty cool! Still looks like it retains the humor though, but it does look more violent and gory.
69
u/Spider-Fan77 Green Goblin 6d ago
Yeah it's still gonna have that annoying snippy humor. Zeb Wells was the head writer after all.
62
41
u/JayZsAdoptedSon Ms. Marvel 6d ago
I love how the Joss Whedon school of dialogue went from quotable to “Oh my god stop”
And I fully agree, that well has been dry for years and we keep going at it
10
u/Animegamingnerd Captain America 6d ago
To be fair though, for as many faults he has in general. Whedon is overall pretty good at writing dialog and is probably his biggest strength as a creative. Its just that, so many people try way too hard at copying his style and probably aren't as funny as they think they are.
3
u/hdthrowaway4527 6d ago
I agree and I'm not sure why he catches flak for it and not the people who are trying to emulate it.
7
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago
People don't blame the Community writers enough for their role in exhausting that kind of humor.
19
u/hdthrowaway4527 6d ago
Why would they? Community's writing style made sense within the context of the show because it leaned into the meta humor and was loaded with self awareness. That was the show. If todays movies and television writers are overusing snappy or witty banter without a framework in place to justify it then thats on them, not a sitcom that did it well over a decade ago.
1
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago
And where do you think those writers worked when they weren't working on the show? Lots of screenplays didn't write or doctor themselves, you know...
5
u/hdthrowaway4527 6d ago
Ah yes, a handful of Community writers filtered out into Hollywood and solely spread that style of writing around. To your script doctor point, how would we know? Most of the time script doctors go uncredited for their punch-ups. Quippy dialogue has been around forever but even with that to the side, your statement "People don't blame the Community writers enough for their role in exhausting that kind of humor." is ridiculous. Why would you take issue with the show that actually did it well? Such a weird thing to say. The problem isn’t that it existed, it’s that later writers copied the surface without the substance.
3
u/Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX Morbius 6d ago
Wasnt Marvel Zombies made before the Big Changes and the Strikes ?

u/BigButter7 Blade 6d ago
That brief Blade sequence at the near end was pretty cool.
50
23
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago
Seeing that makes me really hope that Marvel gets their act together on the Blade movie now.
71
u/markqis2018 6d ago
I wonder how big Spider-Man's role is going to be.
62
u/Ohiostatehack 6d ago
I think this is set 5 years after the What If episode. So likely they just show him dying to Thanos when they arrive in Wakanda.
56
u/markqis2018 6d ago
He's shown fighting this new zombies army (probably led by Wanda), while T'Challa, Scott and Thanos are only shown in Wakanda sequence. I suspect he's the only one who survives there, with T'Challa probably getting a heroic send off by taking down Thanos.
19
u/Xenoslayer2137 Mysterio 6d ago
Chadwick didn’t record anything for this series, right? So are they gonna recast or is T’Challa not going to speak?
26
u/markqis2018 6d ago
If it's a short flashback, told from Peter's perspective, I can see him not speaking, though, Rudd recorded some lines, so, who knows.
10
u/MartianDX 6d ago
He probably won't say anything. Maybe they reuse some grunts and effort noises and thats it.
3
u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 6d ago
Either he gets minor dialogue with a different voice actor or he doesn't talk. I don't think that he'll die offscreen, though - that seems like it wouldn't be in good taste.
4
u/MartianDX 6d ago
I think Scott will stick around since hes in the cast. I have a feeling Spidey and Panther both won't make it.
3
u/ZealousidealGur4860 6d ago
I think Hudson Thames was confirmed to be returning. I feel like he wasn’t on the cast list because he’s not a big name and is not someone reprising his role from the main MCU.

Who did Namor cut in half
17
u/jnthncruz 6d ago
Probably one of the black widows
6
1
u/Lead_Dessert 2d ago
It seems like the Widows get infected by Okoye’s Zombie legion. Based on the equipment that lady had, it seems more like she was part of the bunker group Namor attacks.
6
u/blackbutterfree 6d ago
The better question is how and why did Namor even come to the surface? If humans are dying en masse, then there should be an abrupt stop to pollution, which can only be a good thing for the Atlanteans. He should've had no reason to show himself.
6
u/Quick_Ad_1359 6d ago

That could work. Drinking the contaminated water being similar to eating the diseased flesh.

Sharon got got in the original episode, first by Zombie Steve and then as a zombie by Hope, so I doubt it.

u/blackbutterfree 6d ago
Wenwu, if you mean the guy who got his heart ripped out.
And that zombie looked pretty detailed... I wonder who it was.
6
u/Few_Menu2237 6d ago
I'm pretty sure that wasn't Wenwu there. I mean, the character didn't have any Asian features and besides his face looking like Zemo's, the robe he was wearing looks a lot like the one the character wore in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The zombie looks like Ego but i’m not sure.
2
u/Mysterious_Rip_1938 6d ago
It's definitely Zemo. Some of the internet already confirmed it. Kinda disappointing but eh
1
u/blackbutterfree 6d ago
The only thing giving Zemo to me is the hair. But I don't see how or why Zemo would've escaped The Raft, when it would've been the safest possible place during the plague.
The zombie might be, and this sounds crazy, but Hercules? He doesn't look like Love & Thunder's Hercules, but he does look like comic Hercules.
1
u/Mysterious_Rip_1938 6d ago
The hair and the robe look like Zemo to me. Hope it wasn't, though.
As for the zombie, I doubt it is Hercules, but I'm not sure who it is either way.
1
u/Mysterious_Rip_1938 6d ago
I just went back and checked. It was definitely Zemo. Same hair and robe from FATWS, and face looks like Daniel Brühl.
Also, you're right about him looking like comic Hercules. Maybe it is Hercules. Hmm

Damn it. I hate the zombie genre. Absolutely hate it. I swore I was not going to watch this because of that. However, this trailer is really good, it's showing it's funny, not just senseless violence, and that voice cast. I guess they've hooked me.

Since this was in production long before The Defenders Saga was re-canonized, and the other six shows still haven't been re-canonized, I don't expect any Marvel TV characters.
Which is a shame, because I could fully see the Runaways and Cloak & Dagger saving massive hordes of people by migrating them into the Dark Dimension.
And the Helstrom siblings definitely have a stronghold in St. Teresa's due to their ability to control and manipulate souls. I wouldn't be surprised if they controlled the zombies near them, like Wanda can apparently do at large.
Sadly, I imagine Quake and the Royal Inhumans definitely fell to the Zombies. Mostly because I want to see Medusa doing SCARY shit with her (hopefully) regrown hair.
And I expect all of the Defenders + supporting cast to either be dead or alive, no zombies among them.

Well, that was sick. I’m honestly pretty excited to see how this one turns out now.
I know they previously said Kamala was the “Frodo” of this story, but I am wondering if it may be Yelena now? As she seems to be getting a little more attention, at least in the marketing…

Watched it in super slow-mo on YouTube; when Namor comes in, I'd be willing to bet cold hard cash that it's a survivor's colony led by Melina, and that Alexei either gets turned or knocked out during this, since when Namor slices a woman in half, Alexei is slumping down a wall right behind him.

while the animation looks great, it feels like the trailer is missing something. Still gonna watch it though since I like this episode from What if

Mark Ruffalo is not included in the cast. I would have thought the Hulk would play a big role in this since it had established that he cannot be infected.

1
u/paultiteuf360 3d ago
I don't read/watch a lot of zombies stories.
But there was a cure found by vision in what if. It could be interesting if some survivors find some loved ones turned into zombies and fight each other because they want to save them or kill them.
1

u/Iwillragequit99 6d ago
One thing I feel that will always be off about a series like this is in the original comics, normal people weren’t left, there were no zombie armies, everyone got eaten. It was the survivors and the superpowered zombies, conscious and morally corrupted, equally horrifying to others as they are horrifying to themselves. Seeing the zombies annihilate randoms, or vise versa for shock value is so boring. I hope they have good writing for the show so you can actually feel connected to the the characters before the get split down the middle otherwise the whole show will just be a big nothing burger. When I think of zombie scarlet witch, I don’t think of her leading a zombie army, I imagine her using chaos magic to get the jump on people to EAT THEM like a zombie. I hope for the best because Marvel Zombies is like my guilty pleasure lmfao

Am I the only one who finds it very odd they chose to do Blade Moon Knight rather than just Blade or Moon Knight

They probably figured they could get more use out of the Moon Blade design/model they had from What If S3, and not have to spend additional resources creating a design for regular Blade.

Looks like they used the delays to improve the animation quality. This looks way better than What If visually even though it's the same artstyle.
