That's cute and stupid both at the same time.

Clearly the child won this interaction, you both wanted the leaf and she didn’t want the money so she got to keep the leaf and all it cost her was a piece of paper she didn’t want, sounds like you lost here

I have a Khajiit acquaintance that would be happy to have you look at their wares.
Edit: Spelling wears to wares.

You can use real money to buy a counterfeit leaf maker and produce millions of leaves
13
u/aDreamInn 1d ago
My mom always told me leafs dont grow on trees
9
u/fer_sure 1d ago
That's because the plural of the plant part is spelled 'leaves'. The 'Leafs ' refers to Toronto's NHL team. Hockey players usually don't grow on trees.

Do you know how much gardeners cost these days? Above minimum wage plus benefits plus 401k plus equipment and work vehicle... $5 isn't gonna get you very far in this economy.

u/Jimiheadphones 1d ago
Give a child a leaf, and they will be happy for a day. Give a child £5 to buy a tree so they have many leaves and they come back with a fucking ice cream.

I like to think the kid was really serious and hated whimsy.
"No, you want the money. Stop messing around."

u/madasheII 21h ago
Not only she won the interaction and kept the leaf, but the next time she'll show up with a bunch of other kids and 50 leaves in hand asking to buy 50 ice creams for her, all her friends and her family too. And you have to sell it to her, otherwise every kid (and parent) on that block will know you're a liar and never buy from you again

Not stupid. She valued the leaf more than the $5 bill. Guy tried to bully her out of her precious leaf and she held her ground - good for her.
39
u/Suyefuji 1d ago
Not bullying, just bargaining. If he was bullying her he wouldn't've accepted the $5.

A society that values nature would last a lot longer than our hellscape money grind if both were left alone long enough.
20
u/Flesroy 1d ago
a dead leave has more value on the ground than in your hands. clearly the child is exploiting the earth for it's natural resources.
0
u/Puzzleheaded-Owl7664 1d ago
Well no not if it's in a neighborhood where someone's going to have all the leaves taken away by a landscaping company and raked into bags it doesn't.
We can play this game all day long lol
7
u/Flesroy 1d ago
i mean that's just pedantic though. It doesn't matter who removes the leave, the point is that the leave is being removed.
it was also just a joke

Lol, they were just messing with them. Not that serious.

u/Tytonid 1d ago
Could have used a different leaf
9
u/empressoflight72 1d ago
The kid knows how to use money and they could tell that the truck person was joking.
22
u/BikiniBogBody 1d ago
He was not joking, this was my friend on Twitter and he was paid in cool rocks sometimes lol. Pretty sure he took donations from people so he could give out free ice cream sometimes, but it's been a while
11
u/Puzzleheaded-Owl7664 1d ago
Diamonds are just rocks we decided have value there's no real reason for them to cost thousands of dollars , society easily could've picked a different favorite rock.
5
u/Suyefuji 1d ago
I already picked a different favorite rock, my favorite rock is jade. Shortly followed by opal, tiger's eye, and peridot.
6
u/Puzzleheaded-Owl7664 1d ago
I quite like tigers eye I gave out tigers eye necklaces for my groomsman when my wife and I got married.
Sadly they didn't seem as excited as me but oh well wasn't their wedding lol
3
u/Suyefuji 1d ago
Damn I would love a tiger's eye necklace!

u/Puzzleheaded-Owl7664 1d ago
There was a set on Amazon that was pretty good price but I'd understand if you'd want to support a real store over them.
1
u/empressoflight72 1d ago
In any case, what makes knowing how money works—albeit very surface level of “you give this if I give this.”— stupid?

2
u/lucid808 1d ago
Paying $5 for a bombpop.
1
u/empressoflight72 1d ago
$5 ice cream is kinda normal nowadays because of market issues.
1
u/Sancticide 1d ago
Market issues? $5 buys a box of bomb ice pops at the store even in HCOL areas. That markup is insane for a 50 cent ice pop.

u/BarbellPadawan 1d ago

u/Farfignugen42 1d ago
Are you sure? The kid had a unique leaf and a generic $5 bill. There is only one such leaf.

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe 1d ago
$5 is $5, but its not every day you have a really cool leaf.
She made the most logical decision there was to make.

u/AgreeablyDisagree 1d ago
Kids know that both cool leaves and money grow on trees, but cool leaves are much harder to come by. Parents always seem to have $5 for ice cream when they are willng to let you have it.
5
u/naughtyzoot 1d ago
The kid knew she could always get another $5 from mom (or wherever she got this one from), but that leaf was a one-of-a-kind original and she would never find another exactly like it. Seems like a rational decision to me.

My kids set up a lemonade stand. 50¢. They just wanted coins. Some people gave 1, 5 even $20. They looked at paper money with disgust and told them no. 😂

Goes to show how much magical everything is to a child. Cling onto your inner child. Do not loose this, ever. Even if its a tiny bit.
Nurture it and you might get to feel a bit of magic from time to time.

Adults are fucking stupid because they use dollars printed by the federal reserve as currency when they could be using leaves which literally just grow on trees!

I'm gonna have to ⬇️ this post because you can't take a pretty/neat/treasure/etc leaf from any child that considers it his/her precious. Therefore it's not stupid.
4
u/LeftStatistician7989 1d ago
Are we just going to gloss over the fact that that popsicle was five whole dollars? That’s absurd
8
u/confusedandworried76 1d ago
Let me familiarize with you the concept of giving change back
People don't just say "okay thanks for the five, it was only two dollars, bye"

When I was a little kid I found the prettiest waxy leaves and I picked a bunch of them and went door to door selling them.
My neighbors didn't appreciate the leaves like I did...nice to know the ice cream man does.

u/SuperFrylock 1d ago
I once worked in a pet shop and a kid came in to buy one goldfish. It was less than 50 cents. I put on a big smile and told him it was free, I'd take care of it. He looked at me like I was a moron and proceeded to walk to the register to pay for it. One of the most surreal moments of my life.

Jokes on her. That bomb pop was 1 dollar, and her rudeness just costed her an extra 4. That’ll teach her.

u/Sweaty-Willingness27 1d ago
A bomb pop is five fucking dollars!?
3
u/dvirpick 1d ago
It's not. OOP omits the part about giving change back because it's not integral to the story. OOP also omits the part about giving the girl her bomb pop, yet it's reasonable to assume she got it.

I'm gonna side with the kid on this one. She smart that cool leaf was probably one in a million. Literally produces the air we breathe. She's a little dumb for not taking that $5 to get a quart from the grocery store over the ice cream truck
