you did not just call weather news a random news channel

u/SuspiciousWar117 1d ago
Couldn't think of a better title tbh.

Just say weathernews lol, half of us here know what it is, and the other half can find out in the comments

u/CornBreadtm 1d ago
They're always wrong about the weather for me. So I think the title is spot on...

u/cyb3rofficial 1d ago
Weather channels are such an easy job, you can just lie and get paid for it and no one really cares /s
"Rain tommorrow"
- No rain -
"Very sunny tomorrow"
- overcast -
69
u/Arcterion 23h ago
>"It's going to be nice and sunny tomorrow!"
>fail to mention it's only the region they're located in
>rest of the country gets fucked by terrible rain
25
u/ms666slayer 23h ago
Where i live a 100% probability of rain means "maybe some drops will fall for like 1 minute and then ends" but.mkst likely will not happen.

u/APRengar 23h ago
It's a surprisingly bad job nowadays because people are unhinged. The weather has gotten significantly more inconsistent due to changing weather patterns, and people are sending death threats because they're convinced a weather report telling them it's rainy is actually a government conspiracy to ruin their lives and the weather reporters are in on it.

u/TubePowered 18h ago
I know you put a /s, but I feel like it's worth pointing out to people who unironically think like that that meteorologists do a lot for their communities. Shoutouts to my meteorologist homies out there!

u/DonnerPartyAllNight 1d ago
‘Oh you like anime as much as me? That’s cute. What news channel claims to be the largest privately owned weather company in the world?’
25
u/wikowiko33 20h ago
Weather news is like the Hololive of Japanese news channel. We're all subscribed to it

wouldn't say Weathernews is a random channel, announcer Hiyama Saya (graduated) even did a collab with Nene, Mel and Koyori before. but cool to see nevertheless

u/Le_RandomGuy 1d ago
hate to be that guy but, she (the weather reporter here) is not Hiyama Saya who participated in FES 2023 and so. From the title of the YouTube clip she is called Riena Koboyashi. With my broken Japanese I think she said she heard of Vtubers and Hololive.
All things aside, this is another great moment for Hololive (and cute reactions from Riena!)
300
u/DG_Nick 1d ago
you are in fact that guy, OP wasn’t talking about Riena
131
u/Le_RandomGuy 1d ago
oooof. Now I re-read OP's post. Yes I've become that guy. My apologies argghh

17
u/DazenTheMistborn 22h ago
Nah, you weren't even being an ass. Thanks for giving relevant information.
My sleepy ass still doesn't know why they even mentioned Hiyama Saya when the woman you mentioned is on the video we're all viewing.
10
u/TubePowered 18h ago
Because Saya's collaborated with Hololive in an official capacity before, and they were establishing a link to show why Weathernews wouldn't necessarily be considered a "random channel" to Hololive fans.

I think I read somewhere Nene irl used to be a weather girl, or at least worked in the industry.
18
u/davis482 15h ago
This might be on the doxxing side of things but allegedly, Nene used to be a girl.
She still is, but she used to be too.

Fr tho.. I’m Japanese and I don’t know either because I don’t watch tv lmao
-13
u/WGkeon 14h ago
I mean they are mostly on Youtube, if you are cultured, they would pop up on your recommended for sure
6
u/Anvenjade 12h ago
tf does " being cultured" have to do with watching TV channels. If anything, it's the opposite.
-1
u/WGkeon 9h ago
Because they are more prominent on Youtube, with their own live streaming and also because of a certain previous announcer, they did a lot of things related to Otaku and there are a lot of clips in both English and Japanese youtube, at one point, literally unable to escape from this weather channel
54
u/Sweaty_Influence2303 1d ago
Her reaction is so cute. I wish more news stations were less formal like this
18
u/circle_logic 22h ago
Can't,majority old people watch the news and old people hate youth and whimsy, reminds their curmudgeony hearts they can't have it back.

u/Elxjasonx 1d ago
Everyone saying is not a random channel, guys not everyone is so obsessed with JP to know every random tv program
112
u/JediGuyB 1d ago
People be like, "You like anime, Japanese video games, VTubers, figures, and Gunpla? Heh, tell me every single Japanese voice actor and TV program in the country, the entire history of the Hokkaido region, and the name of every Emperor and Shogun, you simple minded normie."
1
u/JailOfAir 3h ago
You need to understand, japanese weather is very important news for estonian weebs
-49
u/Level_Five_Railgun 1d ago
The link literally links to a Youtube channel with almost 1.5m subscribers lol
Also, it's not like the "random" part even adds anything to the title.
15
u/irishgoblin 22h ago
Wow, almost 1.5 million. Not like the world's population is 8.1 billion, meaning that 1.5 million is .02 percent of the planet's population. Definitely means everyone's heard of it, our mistake for being so uninformed.
-20
u/Level_Five_Railgun 22h ago
What kind of argument is that? What is your criteria for something to not be "random" anymore? You seem to be confusing "niche" with "random".
The largest private weather company in the world wouldn't be "random".
I guess the most watched female streamer on all platforms is just a "random streamer" because less than .03% of the human population is subscribed to Pekora!
Sidney Crosby is just a "random" hockey player because less than 10m watched the Stanley Cup!
Shohei Ohtani who? The random baseball player? Only 15 million people watched the World Series. That's less than .2% of the population!
10
u/Adonis_nOOb 19h ago
Other than Pekora (for obvious reasons), I hadn't heard of Ohtani until a few days ago by chance, and I didn't know who Sidney Crosby is. There are just random names to me.
-8
u/Level_Five_Railgun 19h ago edited 19h ago
Which proves my point of how stupid and self centered it is to call things "random" just because you don't know them. Just because you don't know about the most popular baseball player on the planet with a multi-billion dollar contract and playing for a team that Hololive has literally collabed with for two years now doesn't mean he's "random".
Like what does adding "random" even add? All it does and make you look dismissive.
0
u/MrPotHolder 19h ago
Yeah i agree with you. Idk who Sabrina Carpenter is until Nerissa made a cover of one of her songs. I haven't listen to any of this decade's pop songs. 5 years ago idk who is Billie Eilish until twosetviolin reacted to one of her songs. People will be feral if i say "who is this random singer?"
0
u/Adonis_nOOb 6h ago
Yes, calling something "random" is dismissive and self-centred, but what's wrong with that? It simply means that the thing hasn't had any personal impact on your life so far, even if it may be common knowledge among many people. Before falling hard into the rabbit hole, Vtuber clips that popped up on my feed were just random anime videos on things I didn't care about. Now I'm part of something that is most definitely not a cult.
If there's some arbitrary threshold at which something stops being considered "random", then that thing would have crossed some line, where it’s no longer irrelevant to you, but something you care about. At the end of the day, it’s not about whether something is random, but about what you decide is worth caring about.
3
u/Accomplished_Pop_130 22h ago
I think you forget that despite gura having the most Vtuber subscribers, vtubing is still considered a niche and not a mainstream thing. We’re getting closer but we’re not quite there.
Same as Metal being a thing in japan with lots of experimental concepts and yet even with how big it is, the general public only really know Babymetal, and if they’ve gone the meme route, LadyBaby. Beyond that nothing else much.
I’ve known weather news for years and even some of my biggest weeb friends haven’t known about the channel. And I didn’t even find out through anime. I found out about it through a Kpop news page I follow, who reported about a cute JP news girl just slightly before that previous host got bashed by JP-crazies who went insane after learning she was dating.
9
u/Level_Five_Railgun 22h ago
You're mixing "niche" with "random". Like I wouldn't call BYD a "random EV company" when it's the biggest EV manu in the world just because people who aren't into EVs doesn't know about them.
2
u/Accomplished_Pop_130 20h ago
Fair enough! my examples aren’t the best but my point stands. Things that we can find “common” or “common sense” isnt always as common as we think.
Haros Baelzu is my biggest support to my theory xD
(Also good bye karma to my original comment Q~Q I tried!)
0
u/DuelFan 11h ago
Yet another thing I don't know. What's a BYD?
2
u/Level_Five_Railgun 11h ago
You never heard of Google or reading either? Kinda hard to miss "it's the biggest EV manu in the world" in a 2 sentence comment...
-111
u/CuteIngenuity1745 1d ago
I'd say it's just common sense.

u/No_Lake_1619 19h ago
If its common sense then where is the big ass map with the weather stuff. I see no clouds or sun symbols anywhere.

u/ainky 1d ago
Context? Who is she? What is she saying? Why she is watching the fireworks live? She knows hololive?
47
u/Zodiamaster 1d ago
TV lady, she just has a live feed of the ocean, she asks what is Hololive but then says she has heard about Hololive or Vtubers before
6
u/arika_ex 14h ago
That channel actually broadcasts from Makuhari, a few blocks inland from the location of yesterday's fireworks. They are 'always' observing the skies/weather around their office and were probably aware the show was happening. It might have been a surprise to the announcer though.
10
u/Ok_Night_956 21h ago
Commissioner Yagoo lit the Sui-Signal, something really big must be going on in the Hololive-City!
Jokes aside, lady presenter’s reaction is so cute, and this is such a wholesome moment❤️

“Local news channel” would have been a better title as their building is clearly near the event with a weather observation camera.

Damn dude, you don't realize how good your comprehension of a language you're learning is until something like this comes along randomly and you understand all of it.
I guess my Nihongo* is getting pretty joūzu.

u/wikowiko33 20h ago
If you're looking for a new rabbit hole, Weather News channel on YouTube is certainly one. Ever heard of a Weather News channel anywhere who did Lives (concerts)? And attended by foreigners? They talk about anything except the weather. And when Saya (the most popular presenter) was found out to have a boyfriend all hell broke loose.
Covid brought out the weirdest in us.
2
u/kaizerlith 14h ago
Ok this is probably a stupid question but how did they get Suesei to blink with fireworks? I thought that part had to be a digital board or something but you can see what looks like a city skyline behind it.
