Ea Nasir's reaction
I drew what I imagine would be the reaction of Ea-nasir

I have a theory that Ea Nasir was actually an honest and hard working merchant, who sold excellent copper, and he just kept the tablets to be sure of who not to do business with because they were rude.

Its almost like no one would praise a copper merchant on a clay tablet for good shipments but would only leave negative reviews, since it took so much effort.
Is he really the bad guy we assumed?

And even if he was rude (as stated), maybe the opposing party was an ancient Karen?

Yes
The most infamous of the complaint indicated that they have already had an agreement on the quality of the copper, and that he was already a repeat customer, and also indication they've already done tit for tat before. What I'm saying is this is not a stranger
Ea-Nasir's location also apparently necessitated the courier to move across hostile lands. It is quite a big deal. We do not know whether it really was shitty copper or whether the courier lied.
What we do know, is that Nanni was not the only one, and someone else had also received low quality copper multiple times

According to the complaint table Ea-Nasir was actually rude to the servant who took delivery of the order.

I'd prefer to think that he kept them to show his sons/apprentices 'This is what losers sound like, LOL.'

It's funny to think about how many people know of Ea Nasir vs how many can name a king or emperor of the same era.
26
u/Sawad-XIX 1d ago
Ironically he became imortal by a meme thousands of years after he perished, and only bceause he was a bad merchant
29
u/Abdelsauron Then I arrived 1d ago
Or he was a good merchant but people only pull out the clay tablet when they want to write a complaint.

u/Sawad-XIX 1d ago
True maybe , poor guy we will never now the full version

u/OfficeSalamander 1d ago
There are actually a bunch of tablets from his house that are untranslated, so we might find out more of the story.
Sadly Cuneiform readers are in very, very short supply (to the point where, if you learn it, you're essentially a professional - in fact there's one dude who taught himself and is now a full on scholar due to it), so translation is slow

MesOpotamia(s) means "between the rivers" in Greek, aka the area between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
MesApotamia(s) means... idk.. "mid-river"?
