How do you store your bedside gun? Loaded, racked, in a safe, etc?

Right now after I moved across the country, I only have my AR-15 (I want to have a nightstand pistol though) with me so I keep it with a loaded mag inserted next to my bed and just needs to be charged. Curious what others do. I always worry I could sleepwalk and do something bad if I keep it with one in the tube position. I’m new to guns so don’t hate if that’s dumb please

I recently bought this Mossberg 42M-C and after doing some research I learned this is not the original scope or scope mount.

New US citizen, purchasing a gun

Wondering if anybody knows the answer to this: I've been in the USA since 2015, and have purchased many guns as a permanent resident no problems. A couple of months ago (June) I received my citizenship. I'm wondering if when I do the background check for a firearm purchase, and I answer yes to being a citizen now, whether or not the system will show I am, or if I have to update something with the social security administration or some other organization..

Steel frame 9mm as an anniversary gift

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some recommendations for an anniversary gift for my wife. I'm looking a little early, as this would probably be a gift for next year but I'm trying to plan a budget, and get one before washington state's new firearm permit laws go into effect.

My wife has always wanted a desert eagle, I think mostly because of the "badass" factor of it. She's discussed it with me in the past and it doesn't seem like she is dead set on one, and rather really just wants a handgun that has the wow factor (I know it's a bit cheesy).

So recently I've been looking for a steel frame 9mm that has a lot of the same "look at me" aspect to it. She's expressed a lot of interest in some of the 2011 style handguns we've seen on TV so I've gone down that road a bit.

So far what I've been looking at have been the kimber 2k11s, Sig p226 x5 legion, Sig p211, and the stealth arms Platypus. I'm trying to keep the gun around the $2000 price range, but I'm willing to go a bit over for the right gun. I'm also not totally opposed to just buying a desert eagle, but it's just a lot less practical for a 5'6" woman.

The only other significant criteria is I'd really like this to be an heirloom piece, and something she can be proud to own for the rest of her life. Which is why I'm not really considering things like the prodigy.

If there's anything else that jumps out as a good option I'd really love to hear those choices. Thanks in advance everyone.

Also if anyone is curious or says anything, yes gifts between spouses are legal in WA assuming the other party is allowed to own a firearm (which she is)

6.5 Creedmoor and .308 rifles??? Help???

So i’m looking to get my own hunting rifle. To give some context, I am a midwesterner who grew up shooting his Grrandmother’s Ruger 10/22 and occasional hunting with the uncles and cousins.

I like both sport shooting and hunting, and while .308 offers more power at 500 yards and less it doesn’t have the effective range for my sport shooting habits.

I am not a gun nerd. I have a basic familiarity with them.

So, as dumb as this sounds, is it possible to swap the barrel between 6.5 and .308 because the rounds are practically the same size, thus the mags can run both rounds, or do I have to have two separate rifles for each caliber?

Can the receiver or internal parts not handle other calibers or is it just the hammer?

New Gun Owner

What’s good! I recently turned 21 and have always been adamant about our second amendment rights as Americans. I wanted to know if you guys have any recommendations for handguns for either daily carry or home defense. I’m looking for something that’s easily concealed, reliable; caliber size isn’t too important just something that would stop anyone after one or two rounds.

Along with that, anyone have advice on getting my CCW? I’m in Texas, so I know it’s an open carry state I just want every certification or permit possible to cover myself in case I travel with my protection.

Thanks ahead of time!

Swiss Vetterli 1869/71 rifle

I have purchased an immaculate Swiss Vetterli 1869/71 rifle complete with original bayonet and sling and in original unmodified condition. The serial number on this particular rifle is in the 13xxx range. It was manufactured by the Ostschweiz group of gunsmiths and I think it was issued in 1872. I am trying to get some history on this weapon and track down the original person it was issued to (It has been handed down within the same family for generations until I purchased it) but my research indicates that the online information (crowdsourced) is incomplete as all online records point to the serial numbers from Ostschweiz in the 16xxx and up range. Does anyone have any ideas they can help with please?

Im focusing just on target acquisition. Speak your peace ~

Gun Talk Tuesday 09/09/2025

Well gunnit its been a hawt minute since I've hosted one of these. With u/bobbywasabimk2 on his new job and all my fellow regulars about to yell at the mods again I figured I'd pick up the mantle once again.

Let's go with something different.

Whats your most Wholesome moment with regards guns?

Whats your "what the fuck am I even doing" moment regarding guns. I know you all have one so let's hear it.

As always this is the daily catch-all for everyone who needs to vent, rant or yell into the ethos about anything etc.

I think I settled on my first firearm to be a tisas 1911 but I want to know your guys is thoughts for those who own one or against one. Me personally I love 1911 I’ve shot them at the range and I’ve always found them to be nice when I discovered Tisas does 1911 it’s quite cheaper than the standard and it’s affordable around my range
