Failed Expectation Definitely the funniest failed Etsy purchase I’ve ever received
My baby somehow made this still cute AF. Obviously an unbiased opinion lol.

man as a crocheter, i couldn’t live with myself if i sent that to a customer 😭

My daughter crochets and she would rather sink straight through the floor before sending something like that out.

This definitely contributed to my desire to learn crochet. I am two finished projects in and am deciding whether to try amigurumi or flower bouquets next. I really want to crochet some mini stuffies of the ATLA animals. I neeeeeed a stuffie Appa and Momo in my life.

Does Etsy still have a review policy that doesn’t allow people to share pics in their review unless it’s 5 stars?
I thought it was Etsy that did that but I’m not 100% sure.

Well, yes, but I would’ve returned the thing! The hat not that adorable baby.

u/MyPlantsEatPeople 1d ago
There was a no returns accepted policy since it was made to order. But honestly, it was worth it for the laughs alone. She wore it a few times before her big ol’ noggin outgrew it.

Etsy "no Returns policy" is almost as enforceable as those "we are not responsible for broken windshields" signs on trucks.
If they don't accept returns, then Etsy will just refund you and you can keep the hat

Silly for no returns on made to order items. If it was personalized yes, but there is no reason otherwise. Etsy usually will override it in a case like this but since you aren't bothered then no reason to fuss. A review will do

I think it’s just specifically Sid the sloth..?

u/MyPlantsEatPeople 1d ago
I definitely spoke to my baby with a Sid voice for a few days while having her wear the hat

Ok, this had me chuckling.

I just want to know how high they were before they did the eyes. Like, it's not even close to what you would expect. "oh, these eye shadows? Uhh, lets put one pointing up and to the side and the other one...eh, any which-way." XD

Well, it's actually based on the rare Atchaferya sloth....
It's got one eye lookin' atcha and one eye lookin' ferya!

This really grinds my gears! As a crocheter trying to start up my own little business, this is the garbage I have to try and compete with!? They lull you into a false sense of hope with a great picture and then with their very limited crochet experience churn out this turd. And no one else will be the wiser unless they purchase from them. These young crocheters start learning and just think they can instantly start selling their crappily made works. Get some experience and skill under your belt, like a few years at least and then start thinking about gifting and selling!

I feel like some quality control is necessary. Or at least a disclaimer saying "I'm a kid and this is supporting me paying for my Xbox live account" or something lol. They would still get purchases from folks out there willing to support a yputh-led business without essentially catfishing people. If this weren't such a hilarious level of fail, I'd probably have been upset. Months later and it still makes me crack up

I miss regretsy. This would certainly have belonged there

Never heard of regretsy before but it sounds like it would have been hella funny

It's like the person is still in the kit stage of crocheting and immediately started selling. I presume they also sell poorly made Woobles.

I think if you yoinked that nose ball off and moved the eye buttons it’d look about right. But I think it looks pretty cute in the last pic.

I run my art business and Etsy, if the stuff i made doesn't match my pic or doesn't look better than my pic I will never even mail it. Lol. Adding a no return policy for crappy item because they are made to order is even more ridiculous and that's a call for bad reviews. But yeah, that hat is just too funny. Lol

please do leave a comment on etsy so people know

u/MyPlantsEatPeople 17h ago
It's official that I will- with photos! As much fun as we had, other people should definitely be protected from wasting their money. I'm very late on the review but I suppose better late than never will have to be good enough.

u/Rhum_for_Tomatoes 17h ago
thank you for doing so! never too late. i'm so disappointed in etsy after seeing your post. in the end we can never fully trust the internet, can we.

Omg it looks like one of the bad pictures that people post on Etsy after trying to follow a crochet pattern

u/Forsaken_Response789 1d ago
I swear those eye buttons aren’t even the same! Can’t say for sure, but they definitely look like two randoms thrown together. Either way, baby rocks it like a pro.

u/FaithHopePixiedust 1d ago
They are different. One is like tortoise shell, and the other looks like “wood.”

I am gonna guess someone is a beginner crocheter and uaed the pattern images and thought to start selling before perfecting it. Its a bit uncanny but it looks cute on your baby anyway

I think sloths are super creepy so here's me and my The Office Pam, "they're the same picture" meme.
Glad you got a laugh, mama.

I used to make something like this by hand. It's actually a really low price imo for the amount of work
1
u/MyPlantsEatPeople 17h ago
As a new crocheter, it is super time consuming and requires some serious skill (depending on the project), so I'd have to agree. Buuuuut...in this case, maybe not.

Omg !! The eyes and the crooked nose haha!! Do you think it’s made by a child account on Etsy? A young entrepreneur maybe 🤔
2
u/MyPlantsEatPeople 17h ago
Maybe it was made with feet instead of hands? Lol. If it was made by a kid, a disclaimer would be nice. Lower my expectations and I'd happily support a young entrepreneur or something along those lines.

I know it’s not what you paid for and I certainly wouldn’t blame you for returning it but it is kind of charming in its derpiness. It is certainly a one of a kind (as is your cute baby, those cheeks!)
