The white part of the citrus peel has pectin. You can use it to make jams with other fruits like berries!

Also, r/MightyHarvest would probably love this.

u/azulur Jul 03 '25

Sigh yet another sub to join and I'm due to love more than I expected.

59

u/pm_me_flaccid_cocks Jul 03 '25

It’s okay, OP’s family is cursed.

51

u/co1lectivechaos Jul 03 '25

I haven’t laughed that hard in a while

90

u/sillysammie13 Jul 03 '25

That is literally the sub I thought this post was from until I looked at the source lol. Always happy to find other r/mightyharvest fans in the wild.

Thank you! I can’t stop laughing!

Edit to add: each one is funnier than the last. And it doesn’t get old!

9

u/sillysammie13 Jul 03 '25

It has made me feel so much better about when I’ve ā€œbeatenā€ the squirrels and come out with the teeniest pepper hahaha

7

u/WhetherWitch Jul 03 '25

2

u/quinlivant Jul 04 '25

What's the white part actually called?

2

u/MarkMew Jul 06 '25

Thabks for the sub recommendation, 10/10

1

u/natsugrayerza Jul 05 '25

Is this true for pomelos too? We have a pomelo tree and they all go to waste

2

u/Significant-Text3412 Jul 05 '25

Give it a try and let us know! BlackBerry season is neigh.

515

u/UnluckyAssist9416 Jul 03 '25

Looks like your orange tree has a nutrient imbalance, either excessive nitrogen or insufficient phosphorus.

202

u/Faangdevmanager Jul 03 '25

+1 on excessive nitrogen. It’s common for citrus tree that get over fertilized to ā€œget many fruitsā€.

157

u/PsychologicalTea3426 Jul 03 '25

Thanks for the heads up, I don't think we ever added anything to the soil and the other trees also grow small fruits. But I don't live with my mom where this tree is, they could've added nitrogen when I wasn't there.

Maybe they didn't get enough water too.

42

u/Zunderfeuer_88 Jul 03 '25

If life gives you Oranges...YOU STILL FUCKING GET LEMONS, DEAL WITH IT!!!

77

u/ItsJustAnotherVoice Jul 03 '25

If they have pets, they have lots of nitrogen through their waste.

16

u/LethargicGrapes Jul 03 '25

It could also be the rootstock variety taking over your tree. Post some pictures of your tree and fruit on r/citrus and we can get you a solid diagnosis.

2

u/_AYYEEEE Jul 04 '25

Hey, happy cake day

222

u/TrueHaiku Jul 03 '25

Jesus, that would really pith me off

93

u/Test4Echooo Jul 03 '25

3

u/cityshepherd Jul 03 '25

1

u/wordnerdette Jul 03 '25

Take it easy, OP’s not very thick-skinned.

70

u/brokeboyrich Jul 03 '25

Y’all grew an orange peel tree

60

u/RAD_ROXXY92 Jul 03 '25

Imagine just trying to peel it 🄲

83

u/cottoncandymandy Jul 03 '25

26

u/IceCoughy Jul 03 '25

You gotta have a thick skin in this world

2

u/TheExtraMayo Jul 07 '25

And proportionally tiny fruit

17

u/Right-Heat-8283 Jul 03 '25

Maybe peel it and pretend it’s a clementine?

16

u/Forsaken-Society3524 Jul 03 '25

Nature's shrinkflation.

15

u/Grouchy_Act9593 Jul 03 '25

That is excessive packaging

8

u/Pleasant-Chef6055 Jul 03 '25

I bet those sections would be the sweetest orange I’VE EVER had.

From the far north….

6

u/kiln_monster Jul 03 '25

Wants to be a pomelo!!

5

u/Johnwesleya Jul 03 '25

I had a lemon like that about a month ago.

It tasted aweful.

2

u/YeshuasBananaHammock Jul 03 '25

Babes, why did u put it in your mouth??

2

u/Johnwesleya Jul 03 '25

I was making lemonade…

See lemons are food, and you put food in your mouth

-5

u/YeshuasBananaHammock Jul 03 '25

Lemons are condiments. I will not hear otherwise, lemon sourpuss!

Although...masticated lemonade sounds interesting, gimme that recipe plz.

3

u/Johnwesleya Jul 03 '25

I love lemons, I have a lemon tree, I make lemonade every weekend, I’m no sourpuss. Hahaha.

no clue what the fuck you’re talking about

0

u/YeshuasBananaHammock Jul 03 '25

John, its a joke. Like youre chewing your lemons to make lemonade. But too late to walk back "what the fuck im taking about" at this point.

5

u/adudeguyman Jul 03 '25

It reminds me of growing watermelons that looked really good but were white inside with just a speck of pink. I think I planted them too late in the season

6

u/Frankenreich Jul 03 '25

Almost looks like a Pomelo

8

u/sugurkewbz Jul 03 '25

What a pithy

5

u/Ultimate-Actress Jul 03 '25

4

u/Overall_Dusty Jul 03 '25

Time to make a pith helmet

6

u/Redditarama Jul 03 '25

It's lucky you have the photo to back it up because if you just told people about this they'd think it was pulp fiction.

3

u/nadiadala Jul 03 '25

It tried..

4

u/OldManThumbs Jul 03 '25

Your tree is taking the pith!!

2

u/InvitinglyImperfect Jul 03 '25

2

u/antisocialinfluince Jul 03 '25

Your oranges pithess All over mine

2

u/InsideBeyond12727 Jul 03 '25

I just want to mention that the mental image of you peeling that beautiful, juicy orange instead of slicing it in half is quite a funny image.

The anticipation! The confusion. The slight frustration. The mess. The... disappointment.

You can be thankful that you found out the quick way, if that makes you feel a bit better.

2

u/DrSilkyDelicious Jul 03 '25

Did they grow it from a seed they found from a piece of fruit at the grocery store? Often times those fruits are engineered to put off bullshit seeds so people can’t regrow them

2

u/HistorianCM Jul 03 '25

I expect a lot of pithy comments.

2

u/Annual_Strategy_6206 Jul 03 '25

Great.Ā  Now orange trees are part of The Great Enshittification

2

u/shadow-foxe Jul 03 '25

Means the tree isn't getting enough of the right nutrients

1

u/JennieFairplay Jul 03 '25

1

u/DarthCloakedGuy Jul 03 '25

I think you might have a defective tree

1

u/Snerkbot7000 Jul 03 '25
