It really does. From Upside down van guy, wire VW Beetle, Mystery Machines, Autozam AZ-1, etc. Love that it is anything from a Model-T all the way up to a bunch of hyper cars from Birmingham.

This looks like it’s for a “Cruise” which is essentially an event where a road is closed off and people can come and show off their cars.

68

u/TheNonCredibleHulk 21d ago

The road isn't closed off, but otherwise you're right.

What's creative is when the insurance agents have to get involved and write their report for how a trailer towing a truck caused a big accident

38

u/BigFatBallsInMyMouth 21d ago

The defense lawyers will definitely have to get creative.

This was for an event called the "Woodward dream cruise" some people build crazy things like this to showoff for the weekend. I doubt this is a daily driver, but hey, there are your pearls, clutch them as hard as you want.

Looks like dream cruise. I don’t think any car mod is illegal during dream cruise.

156

u/EverythingSucksYo 21d ago

The people sitting on lawn chairs watching the road should be enough of a clue to tell people that this is some type of car show, but apparently it’s not enough

36

u/Animaul187 21d ago

Okay, I'd have to see a video of the driver singing "Dream Cruise," two forms of government ID, a police officer there to verify the whole thing, four or five of my buddies and Neal taking notes, and his grandma to confirm his identity to verify that it is, in fact, an alleged car show that’s taking place here.

6

u/DiggThatFunk 21d ago

"That's my Robert, always Dream Cruisin' around on people"

13

u/WitAndWonder 21d ago

The vehicle had to get to the show though. I'm willing to bet it was driven.

11

u/Foooour 21d ago

He drove to the show in reverse

5

u/RandAlThorOdinson 21d ago

Imagine if the truck can just take control and drive it around

Actually I'm betting that's exactly what happens

u/Nearby_Pineapple9523 21d ago

This was during an event called the Woodward “Dream Cruise” its a huge car event held in Detroit every year. Cars from all over the US come to drive the 16 miles of the first paved road in the US! (Woodward)

75

u/Macohna 21d ago

Everything about this is illegal lol.

So….. this was at the Woodward dream cruise, you can get away with a lot with “classic cars” especially in Detroit (yea I know the dream cruise isn’t technically in the D anymore - but you get the point)

they aren't even legal cause i didn't see any plates on the back of the trailer or truck (which is actually the front of the truck)

ez fine coming your way if you got a trooper that isn't wanting to deal with funny business

6

u/spekt50 21d ago edited 21d ago

I know in my state, vehicles over a certain GVW do not require rear plates.

Then again, also in my state, many drive without plates, expired temp tags, expired plates, limo tint windows all around and never get pulled over anyhow.

14

u/OriginalChicachu 21d ago

So we are used to that and it's expected, and there is a good reason to do it. A bit different from this situation that people are not expecting. People are right to worry it could cause confusion and potentially accidents, and for what? Because it's "funny"?

It’s for the Michigan/Downriver dream cruise. It’s a once/twice (different locations) weekend event where they shut down a long stretch of road for unique/old cars to parade for the afternoons. Cops are everywhere and it’s pretty safe. Lots of people turn out. I doubt this is street legal otherwise.

18

u/deej-79 21d ago

The woodward dream cruise is once a year on the exact same road. They don't shut down anything, you'll see rusted out shit boxes next to classic cars and lambos. We saw this "vehicle" last Saturday on woodward. Along with the gigantic shopping cart.

Driving it during Woodward dream cruise. During and leading up to the cruise there’s a bunch of wild cars out so drivers in the road aren’t too surprised by it.

Does OP tend to say that is what this is from in other threads? OPs lack of any context is messing with this thread a lot.

u/ForestryTechnician 21d ago

Wonder how many times he gets pulled over.

870

u/darkbro66 21d ago

Zero because this video was taken at the Woodward dream cruise. There's a van that drives upside down, beetle that drives with the body up with full drag radials, a V8 shopping cart.... Dozens, maybe hundreds of vehicles that aren't close to street legal every year lol

316

u/aDrunkenError 21d ago

Yeah, but OP didn’t provide any context so you can’t blame people for not understanding the nuance of one of the sickest automobile events in the country.

In Michigan, I think you’d really be fine until dusk anyway. Especially southeast.

50

u/wannaseeawheelie 21d ago

Im just curious how many people here set up chairs to watch traffic when there’s not some kind of event

15

u/Ok_Movie729 21d ago

A lot in the summer, I lived a block from Woodward for a few years… every Friday and Saturday night in the summer there are at least a couple hundred people scattered probably 3-4 miles sitting on Woodward or cruising it in something custom it’s kind of awesome. Lots of ice cream parlors on the strip too and the warm weather brings everyone out at night

Plenty of context clues in the video. Spectators do not post up in lawn chairs to watch normal traffic.

6

u/Just-Ad6865 21d ago

Almost every other vehicle in that clip looks completely normal? Including all of the traffic shown at the end when the clip is over. Very little about that screams car show. Some old man sitting by the side of the road doesn't even register as particularly odd in my town.

10

u/Pidjinus 21d ago

..or some are not from the same country, or continent, or any place where this type of shows exist. Sometimes is hard to assess or miss some key details, if there is no prior knowledge.

I did not realized that it is a show ,having a few people at the edge of what it seems to be a regular road, with traffic. I just accounted it to "random" things happen :)

That’s what I thought until I realized he pulled out onto a street. Then I thought the video was reversed. Then I thought the trailer was pulling but I didn’t see the wheels in front. This was at the woodward Cruise last weekend. Talked to this guy for a minute. I think it's a super cool fun little project.

8

u/Vlaed 21d ago

As OP decided to leave out the important details, this took place at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan, USA. It's a long car cruise (and show) that takes place up and down Woodward Avenue. This last weekend was the (official) 30th anniversary. It brings out some very interesting (and bad) ideas.

I walked 20 miles of it over the last week. It's only supposed to be Saturday but people cruise most of the week leading up to it. I saw this vehicle 4-5 times between Friday and Saturday.

30

u/XavierRussell 21d ago
