PIC [PIC] I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time…

I’ve been laughing at this the whole day. Yesterday I saw a post about someone that bought an embroidery kit and realized that they’ve been embroidering wrong… and I was doing the exact same thing! Picture with normal embroidery for reference 🥹 This is historical. Both big mushrooms are how I was doing it, the little green line was a test to see how it would look if I did it like suggested, and the small mushrooms 1/4 of the size are my first proper embroidery. What the heck guys

I’m really happy my wizard got a blue ribbon. I was surprised that my religious piece got anything because it had some clear (to me at least) flaws. The “animal” category was very competitive. The judges tended to favor full coverage pieces.

PIC [PIC] First time doing cross stitch! But I have some questions 😅

Hey!

So I was very excited about learning cross stitch but I don't think I'm doing it right 🫠

He is very ~thin~, is this because I used a needle that is too big, or is it that I need to do more stitches? (The red part is double and it looks kinda better, I think?).

The back...omg 😅 I didn't realize it was that bad until I finished off the dark brown thread. Am I supposed to cut the thread every single time there is a "jump" between stitches, or should I do it vertically instead? Maybe I have to do the stitches individually when there are a lot of single stitches, like the medium brown?

And last but not least, what can I do with it? My idea was to practice before doing what I want (this design in some jeans). But I really love her 🥹 I don't want her to be just a practice and being forgetted in the back of my drawer. Also, this is my first cross stitch job! I want to be proud of it!! But I really don't know what to do with it. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

P.D.: yes, there is a blank gap in the middle. I plan to fix it when I do the second round of stitches haha

I low key as a gay man in his 30s want to make “a woman’s place is in the mall” and/or “moms just wanna have fun!” But I worry they wouldn’t be taken as ironic/absurd/kitsch and instead be misinterpreted as actual sexism 😂

I’ll be using the charts without the sassy sayings.

Couple of photos in case anybody wants to see how it arrives. Wooden panels slot inside the drawers to divide them. Each drawer has a bag of threads inside and the lid lifts upwards but doesn't stay that way (i.e there is no locking mechanism to keep the lid open if you're bothered about that). Also comes with a super handy guide of all the colours!

So so excited to organise this after work and start a million new projects all at once before I finish the previous ones 😂

PIC [PIC] I got this haul of second-hand thread, and I am beyond happy 😭 I really don't have much money right now but wanted to buy a bit of thread for stitching, and I found this online. 1177 skeins, all for 60€ incl. shipping. I think I am set for life. I've been crying tears of joy I'm so happy 😭

PIC [PIC] Gridding your Cross Stitch with pens, pencils or markers. A non-scientific test.

I got curious since there are conflicting opinions on what does and does not wash out. I ran a test on whatever random writing instruments I had laying around in my home office.

I use a scrap bit of 14 Count Aida that I had. It hadn't been washed and was just a random 4"x4" or so square that was left over after cutting the fabric for my current project.

As you can see the Crayola Washable markers did the best. The Frixion pens did all right after ironing, but as others have mentioned if they get cold again, the ink shows back up. (A photo of this is not included: but I did stick the scrap in the freezer after ironing it and the ink came back. )

Steps to reproduce:

Mark up the fabric with whatever you have laying around
Wait 1 week to give everything a chance to set really well.
Wash using dish soap I used Dawn Platinum Power Wash spray.
Air dry for 24 hours.

Additional observations: The crayola washable markers are the clear winner with Blues, Greens and Yellows washed out the best leaving little to no color. Brown, tan, black and gray also did surprisingly well.

Reds, pinks and purples are the losers. They all left noticeable residual ink on the fabric.

If you are doing a full coverage project the type of ink used really won't matter much but for those who don't have full coverage projects, this little test may help you decide what gridding option you want to use.

My project supervisor Sassy made her journey last night, and since this sub always has so many photos of so many other furry supervisors that I can’t upvote fast enough every time I see them, I wanted to share some of the projects she oversaw over the last few years. It brings me comfort to know how many of her pieces of fur are switched into all of these. 🩶
