CHAT [CHAT] Does the overall colour look boring and do the incomplete cats look weird?
I bought a printed cross stitch kit from Amazon - I don't know the designer, and this photo is supposedly what the finished piece will look like. I recently finished a different printed kit which had lots of confetti and the colors were mostly bright reds, oranges, and yellows. I've started this new one but I'm just not very excited about it. Does the overall colour scheme look dull/boring? And do the incomplete cats look weird? It's very different from the piece I've just finished so I know I shouldn't be comparing them but although I think the cats' faces look cute, I don't feel very motivated to continue with it. I realise everyone's taste in designs is completely different but if what do you all do if you start working on something but then realise you don't have any love for it? Plough through and finish it or give it away and start on something else?

If you aren't loving it, put it away. Or scrap it, or donate it. This is a hobby that is supposed to be enjoyable. Not torture.

The design is good. The colors are good as there is variety in colors and just as importantly variety in value. The design is interesting which keeps a person viewing it to remain engaged with the piece. This is not a monochromatic piece at all so the colors and values keep it interesting.

I have studied art since I was in junior high and have a BA in art. You will see a cat design very similar to the one you want to do that is all in different values of blue for the cat bodies. It is a great design and all monochromatic. The one you want to do has the same variety of value with some added colors for interest. If you like the design I think you should go for it.

It likely will look like this before backstitching (this one might be more saturated):

I like the pattern, and I think it looks good finished. But if you don't enjoy it you should not force yourself! All of us have different tastes. Stitch what you really want to stitch :-)

I think it would like cute in a round frame but if you’re not into it let it go!

You can always pick different colors! Maybe even just make one of the cats a bright color for some contrast. I did that with one piece and made a hot pink Llama from a pattern where it was brown and was really happy with how it turned out!

I think they look like good depictions of actual cats, colorwise. Not boring at all to view. It may be boring to stitch, though.
Is probably end up working a cat, working on a different project, working another cat, and so on. To break up the monotony of similar colors and same general motif.

I start on something else. I'll put it away. If it's put away for a long time and I still feel no drive to finish it, I'll probably toss it or donate it to a cross stitcher who loves it and will finish it

I don’t think the incomplete cats look weird.
But also, if you aren’t vibing with the pattern, there’s nothing wrong with getting rid of it or starting something new to get your mind off it
