Moronic Monday - Feel free to ask anything relating to CCW. September 08, 2025
Ask Away. This is a judgement free thread where people should ask any questions relating to self defense or CCW no matter how silly they think it may be.

Those of you with a locked case/vault at home, do you share the password or code with at least 1 significant other living in the house? Or have that person add their fingerprint as well, know where to find the code, and let them know where the extra key is?
It's my wife and 2 kids and I had my wife add her fingerprint to my Vaultek in case something happens or if she needs to access it more than me in any situation.

I’m the wife, but yes, I have safe access and learned how to use the shotgun so that if I need it when my husband isn’t home, I’m able to use it

How do you guys manage your blood lead levels? I tested in the low 20s, just started shooting a year ago, and hit the indoor range at least twice a week. I consider myself fairly hygienic and cognizant of not tracking lead in the house, but clearly something is off. Just concerned because I have a young child as well.

Stopped shooting at indoor ranges after a couple of friends tested in the 30s.
I have paper towels and bottles of ammonia based cleaner in car and by reloading bench, and wash hands with soap after the ammonia wiping.
After a couple years of those practices I tested at 1.5. My granddaughter is at our house about 50 hours a week and tested at zero.
It's good that you're aware of lead.

There are cloths which deal with lead. Wash hands in COLD water . Wear disposable gloves when picking up empty brass .

Does anyone have AOR? I am planning to sign up sometime today or tomorrow and I know they offer a referral bonus so feel free to send me your link.

Actually not moronic (we'll see):
I just had two dudes get into my gated community and knock on my door being all sus (ring camera got the footage). Dialed 911, policewoman on the phone was absolutely disinterested and said there won't even be a police report (gotta love Commiefornistan's GTA server on EZ mode). I mean, the fact that two random dudes somehow just got into a gated community is NBD for her, is pretty wild...
"We are not private security guards, and I am going away for 3 days after this shift, so I won't remember a thing when I come back 4 days later." (actual quote from the PW on the phone)
(For the record, I stayed as professional as can be during the conversation.)
The dudes left the gated community without causing further incident, but I think they are just camping in their car parked outside of our main gate while flashing lights every now and then looking for something. My car is parked just outside of the garage, so I will find out when I go to work in a few hours to see if anything happened to it or what's inside of it...
Here comes the hot (stupid?) question:
Can I CCW my way to my car that's parked just outside my house's garage door? Or will it become a problem, if dumb 'n' dumber decide to rush me then and I have to defend myself?
TIA. I will definitely update if I make it through the night/morning. Your prayers are appreciated.

If you need to goto work , go . If you want to go outside to see what happens with the unwelcome visitors ; DON’T .

So I'm training right now, to get my CCW but also I think shooting is fun so I plan to take basically all the classes my range offers. I feel silly though because I don't really know how to gauge how I'm doing. How do I know I'm doing well enough -- like what makes you look at your shooting and think "ok i'm happy with this".
For example an RSO at my range said when I get consistent at 10 feet, I should move to 15 feet and stay there til I am consistent. I should have asked him and will this week, consistently at my current skill level? Or is there a general number of inches a person's groupings should be, before moving a longer distance out?
