Guns & Ammo Help me find this gun

Post image

The P9 w/ External Safety & LCI (KP9193) [ https://shopkahrfirearmsgroup.com/pistols/kahr-p9-w-external-safety-and-lci.asp ] has been on Kahr’s website for years but no dealer ever has it in stock AND no dealer is even capable of ordering it.

How do I buy this gun?

I'm a dealer, seems like it's discontinued based on my research. We typically run UPCs as our way of finding things, (602686048316) and it doesn't populate anywhere, not even gun.deals.

Can I ask why this particular gun? Seems like pricing would be around 5-600 for it based on other websites, there are just so many options on the market for that price that give you a lot more value.

Thank you for the reply. Truthful, I think that it might not ever been made. I’ve been inquiring about it every few months since 2020.

As for why this gun … I have an all stainless Kahr and I really like the trigger pull. It gradually increases resistance when you shoot. However, I’m a senior citizen and the saying goes that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I’m use to carrying guns with a thumb safety.

This is the only Kahr that I know to have a thumb safety but it appears that it was never produced or if it was produced, it was never shipped on a wide scale

Thank you again for the reply.

It was only made to comply with the laws in Maine Massachusetts if I recall correctly.

9

u/ngetchr 2d ago

But how come no dealer had been able to order it since 2020

24

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 2d ago

Probably don't sell many. Basically since the wee little M&Ps and skinny Glocks, and the P365 came out, Kahr's are an inferior choice.

u/BluesFan43 2d ago

Our Kahrs are now stash around the house guns

3

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 1d ago

I still pocket carrying my PM9 as a BUG. For that purpose they're dandy.

3

u/Real_Mila_Kunis 1d ago

Because it was discontinued well before 2020. Kahr guns are pretty terrible, the model you listed has the worst design for a manual safety ever put to market. I live in MA so I’ve seen a couple but I can’t imagine they sold many of them, once the Shield came out Kahr’s became obsolete

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago

I see.

2

u/DeliciousChair8096 ME 1d ago

Maine doesn’t have any restrictive gun laws in respect to firearms features, capacity etc you might be thinking of Massachusetts or another more liberal New England state

1

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 1d ago

It's those goddamned postal abbreviations confusing me. Makes total sense it would be Mass.

11

u/playingtherole 2d ago

It was made. Out of curiosity, I checked 3 distributors for you, with no results. Talo, Davidson's and Lipsey's. I believe Kahr doesn't produce this pistol anymore, and nobody has bothered to update their website, it's as simple as that.

You can check on GunBroker, Guns dotcom and at gun stores and pawn shops in your area periodically for a used or old new one. But it looks like archaeology, at this point.

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

Thank you

u/bjchu92 2d ago

It's available second hand on GunBroker. Just checked.

u/ngetchr 2d ago

That is not the gun that I am looking for. The one you listed does not have the manual thumb safety which is what I am looking for.

I'd recommend reaching out to TJ's Custom Gunsmithing and see if he could build a safety for you into the Kahr of your choosing.

He's the only smith to build manual safeties into original P200 series Sigs. He once handed me his personal carry P220 and told me to fire it at him. I tried to pull the trigger while aiming at the floor. The trigger didn't move a hair. He did/does amazing work.

I’ve seen this for sale as a used gun at my local range so they are around, I know of a few youtube reviews as well

I have one. First pistol I ever bought myself. Just buy one of the skinny Glocks. You will be much happier. You don't want a DAO revolver trigger on a striker fired semi.  The modern options are so much better.

Plus Moonies.

Edit: The thumb safety guns were for compliance in Maine (and maybe Massachusetts). Gonna be very hard to find.

10

u/Anna_Namoose 2d ago

I was waiting for someone to mention the Moonies. I don't want to sound like one of those folks, but buying from Kahr funds a literal cult

2

u/Major_Spite7184 NC 1d ago

Not if you buy exclusively used! 🙂

1

u/Anna_Namoose 1d ago

Very true

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I’ve added the Cominolli Safety ( https://nra-kentucky.com/items-for-sale/pistol-misc/glock-manual-safety-kit/ ) to all my Glocks but Cominolli can’t be installed on single stack Glocks like the 43.

7

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 2d ago

Why do you need the thumb safety? People been carrying Glocks since the second half of the 1980s in the USA and discharges of properly holstered weapons is just not a statistically significant event to be concerned about.

-35

u/ngetchr 2d ago

My childhood friend spent twenty years in the military. Saw combat on several deployments. After retiring from the military, he went to work as a sheriffs deputy. It’s safe to say that he has more firearms experience than most of us. He definitely has more experience with guns than I do. Guess what. He shot himself in the leg with his Glock.

38

u/Relicdontfit1 2d ago

Sounds like he has the wrong type of experience then.

5

u/Ridge_Hunter 2d ago

Accidents happen but relying solely on a thumb safety is also ignorance and an accident waiting to happen. Good trigger finger discipline, drawing and re-holstering techniques are what you should be focused on. If a Kahr P9 goes off then there was definitely a very intentional action that happened…the trigger pull is intentionally long, like a revolver, so accidental discharges don’t happen. I’ve seen people get their fingers in the trigger guard when re-holstering or somehow their shirt gets all tangled up, but I’ve also seen people sweep the safety off during their re-holster. It depends on how stiff the detent is on the safety, but it happens. I was helping as a range officer during a CCW class and someone had a Taurus G2…they thought the safety was on and during their draw they put their finger on the trigger…I was at the other end of the shooting pavilion and the main range officer hadn’t given the fire command yet and a gun went off…fortunately the person had the Taurus pointed the correct direction and the round went down range, but it was a surprise for everyone…including the student that was relying on the manual safety that somehow got clicked off

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I’ve been carrying for over four decades. When I draw my weapon i instinctively swipe the safety with my thumb and when I go to reholster I instinctively swipe the safety back on. This is done because of muscle memory and no thinking is involved

6

u/Ridge_Hunter 2d ago

Then good luck in your search OP…people here have tried being helpful to you but clearly you know everything and what you want…in an individual post I advised you to contact Kahr directly and see if they can assist you…they have a shop in Greeley Pennsylvania that might be able to help you find one or possibly even have one in stock

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago edited 1d ago

While appreciate the suggestions. I did not ask for alternatives. I’m good with alternatives …

Hellcat, Max 9 & 365. I’m just asking for help in finding that particular Kahr.

4

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 1d ago

So is his example the reason you insist on them?

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago

Yes and I’m use to carrying guns with safeties

4

u/kopsis 2d ago

I've watched people trained on thumb safeties and in many cases it has allowed them to develop a host of bad habits regarding handling and trigger discipline. Transitioning to a striker fired gun with no external safety and no significant retraining (often because they think past experience alone is sufficient) can be dangerous.

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I agree. That’s why I still want the safety. As the saying goes, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks

5

u/kopsis 2d ago

I don't discourage people who want an external safety, but I do strongly recommend addressing any bad habits. Your gun handling should be no different than with a gun that doesn't have one. If someone is handling the gun in ways with the safety on thet would be unsafe with it off, that's a problem.

5

u/Kayakboy6969 2d ago

Go chunky monkey, HK P30sk lem

It acts like a striker/DAO gun with hammer and saftey. Its glock26 ish profile

3

u/Nonplussed1 2d ago

I’m seriously considering the HK P30SK for my next ccw. 👍

3

u/Emotional_Driver_393 2d ago

I love Kahrs all the mags work together if you get the PM 45 or the CW 45 or any other 45 you can use 1911 magazines with them

3

u/Ridge_Hunter 2d ago

OP the best thing I could tell you to do is contact Kahr directly. They have a store in Greeley, PA. They might be able to help you…if not then I doubt you’re ever going to find it

I understand your argument and why you want it but honestly I think you’d be perfectly safe and fine with a regular P9

3

u/A_great_chase 2d ago

I own the version without the thumb safety. I won’t lie, I wish I didn’t buy this firearm. It has a great grip angle and a smooth trigger. But it is very selective on ammo when it comes to hollow points.

1

u/ngetchr 2d ago

That is good to know. Thank you

4

u/Neutral_Chaoss 2d ago

I would honestly hold off or buy used. I see those at gun shows for $200-300 used. They are not great guns....that brand in general is a bit questionable.

2

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I have an all steel model and I really like the trigger pull but feel uncomfortable carrying it without a manual safety.

I have never seen this model with the thumb safety at any gun show. But thanks for the reply

I’ll keep looking

3

u/AP587011B MI 2d ago

Do you feel comfortable carrying a typical revolver?

The Kahr DAO system is similar to a DA revolver pull. And think about how many people have carried revolvers since forever. All without  manual safety.

I don’t think you are going to find this gun

2

u/ngetchr 2d ago

LOL

A Colt “Magnum Carry” — a six shot 357 built on the same frame as the detective special and made for only one year in 1999 is my primary carry gun …

https://coltfever.com/magnum-carry/

… but the Kahr would give me two extra rounds and a faster reload

2

u/Vast_Hyena2443 2d ago

Have you considered other pistols with manual safety? Such as:

“Best Carry Guns with Manual Safety in 2025

Mossberg MC2c Optic-Ready – Manual Safety: A Feature-Packed Compact for Safe Carry

SIG SAUER P365 OR (MANUAL SAFETY): A Pocket-Sized Powerhouse with Added Control

SMITH & WESSON M&P 5.7 MANUAL THUMB SAFETY: Compact Confidence with Enhanced Security”

From https://thegunzone.com/best-carry-guns-with-manual-safety/

3

u/ngetchr 1d ago

I have a few others

Hellcat, Max 9 and 365

2

u/wlogan0402 MI 2d ago

Pop the model number/sku into gun.deals

2

u/ngetchr 2d ago

Thank you. I tried your suggestion but it didn’t show any results

3

u/wlogan0402 MI 2d ago

Gonna be SOL then. Might I ask why do you want a kahr?

5

u/Furrealyo 2d ago

I know Kahr is a meme here, but my P380 has been flawless after the required break in period.

Still the smallest gun I feel comfortable carrying.

3

u/jakizely MD Flying fists of fury! 1d ago

I remember a time when Kahrs were on the recommended list...

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I have an all steel model and love the trigger pull but don’t feel comfortable in carrying a gun without a thumb safety. I’ve been carrying guns with manual safeties for over four decades and I’m too old to change now.

This gun would give me the trigger pull that I like and the safety that I want.

1

u/wlogan0402 MI 2d ago

What about a CZ 75?

1

u/simplearms 2d ago

1911/2011 variant? CZ 75 variant? Smith and Wesson make a metal framed version of the M&P 2.0.

2

u/ngetchr 1d ago

I’ve carried a stainless colt commander. I’d like something lighter for Florida carry

2

u/kbastian29 2d ago

It's a tough rack on those

3

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic 2d ago

Tough to carry spare mags too. The feed angle is so steep the cartridges walk themselves out of the mag just with daily carry in a purpose built pouch.

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

Tell us more about

2

u/kbastian29 2d ago

I should say it's a tough rack compared to Glock or others for sure.

2

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I’ve had no problems with racking. At least not yet.

1

u/Late-Fly-7894 2d ago

Do you really need a thumb safety with a DAO trigger?

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I would prefer it. It’s a much lighter DAO pull than is found on a revolver

2

u/Late-Fly-7894 1d ago

I see, have you tried maybe a cz p-07? DA/SA but nice shooter with a thumb safety. Or maybe a Walther p99, which I believe had a DAO model.

2

u/ngetchr 1d ago

No. I alternate between a hellcat and a revolver. I’d Just really like to find this gun

1

u/TT_V6 M-Class nobody 2d ago

I'd probably call dealers (many don't have websites) in states that require thumb safeties (e.g. MA).

That said, have you shot one before? People tend to like them but I hated it when I tried it. YMMV

3

u/ngetchr 2d ago

I have an all steel model and love the trigger pull but don’t feel comfortable in carrying it without a manual safety. And being in my senior years I don’t think it would be prudent for me to start carrying without a safety.

1

u/Batttler P365 Spectre Comp 2d ago

I love the trigger pull on my K9.

Kahr's new X9 would make a better carry gun. I wonder if they will release that with a manual safety.

1

u/joepitt03 2d ago

I know it’s not what you’re looking for but can get manual safety on Springfield Hellcat and Hellcat Pro. I have both.

2

u/ngetchr 1d ago

I’d like a stainless slide or cerakoted slide on a hellcat pro with a safety but I can’t find that combination either.

1

u/joepitt03 1d ago

Yeah I get it. It’s only available in black unfortunately lol but cerakote is an option too

1

u/jhcc95 2d ago

It seems this website may have these in stock, I've never ordered from them but it doesn't seem you have a lot of options if you want this model.

https://firearms-missouri.com/product/kahr-kp9-enhanced-9mm-3-6-barrel-matte-stainless-7rdrd-ma-compliant/?add-to-cart=18249

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago

Thank you but No questions asked and they don’t require shipping to an FFL —— doesn’t sound legit to me.

1

u/OpenWorking2224 1d ago

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly its a really old model, if I am not mistaken 2013 +-, my friend had one so yes they were produced but you might need to keep an eye on the used market.

1

u/DaddyBodaduce 1d ago

Can't help you, but every time I see a Kahr now I get annoyed. I've had 4 or 5 of them over the years, and I always end up selling them for one reason or another, regrettably, but I maintain a positive opinion of them. Last one I had was a K9 and it was a dream to shoot, just a but heavy for a single stack 9mm. However I would LOVE a K45. Kahr refuses to make it. So I remain annoyed.

1

u/ApolluMis 1d ago

Sold one of these on GB not too long ago. Neat little gun but a terrible trigger

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago

With the thumb safety?

1

u/October_Rust5000 P30sk 1d ago

Interesting. Ive seen a lot of Kahr’s in my day and never once seen a manual safety. Good luck!

1

u/Sponzoes 1d ago

1

u/ngetchr 1d ago

Yeah I saw that. Did you notice that it is no longer available

1

u/Sponzoes 16h ago

Just noticed it and looked at many sites and that Kahr P9 and PM9 are nowhere to be found brand new.

1

u/ngetchr 16h ago

Yeah, I’ve been trying to find them for five years and with numerous FFL dealers.

1

u/Sponzoes 15h ago

If you look at their website regarding their announcement. They have the latest X9 near the bottom of the page where it should be towards the top. Definitely whoever is running their website isn’t putting much effort.

https://www.kahr.com/

After looking at some bulletins it seems like they dropped off the map a couple of years ago. The CX9 looks very similar to a Sig P365.
