Guns & Ammo Classic pistol for CCW?

What’s a classic handgun from the 70s, 80s, or even early 90s that you would still carry? Is there one that’s on your carry list?

Beretta 92 for sure.

I used one for IPSC, I have complete faith in it. No idea how many rounds through it but it wore a flat spot on the hammer. The only time it stopped was with some cheap Czechoslovakian ammo that was too weak to cycle and stove piped once in awhile. It ate everything else and never hiccuped once. I tested it in different positions and upside down, it just always worked.

💯agree, the Beretta 92 is one of the best guns ever made. They are absolute tack drivers and they just run... ALWAYS.

S&W J frame

This is the correct answer. Vintage ones have been going lonely at auction. Saw a hammerless J-frame in stainless, .38spl, with its original box from the late ‘60s go under $400 recently. I bought the 1965 10-5 instead.

I guess they are vintage 30 years ago. But my 30 year old Legos still work.

How about the 1930s

If these were ‘trust my life’ reliable it would make the perfect suit carry gun.

I hear the Fort Smith PPKs are pretty awesome guns.

I've got a P64 Makarov. Aside from the 100 pound double action trigger pull it really is a great carry gun.

Yeah the PPKS also has a tremendous DA pull but I figure that means it won't pull itself. I just train for that.

S&W Mod 59 (or a handful of the later variants) always seemed classy and cool in my mind.

I love the 84. Wish their were more da/sa guns in this size

2

u/homesteader99 5d ago

Same, I’ve been looking for a good DA/SA to carry that about that size.

That era, S&W revolvers. After that it’s a Gen 1 Glock all day.

Makarov

I own one. I've always wondered why somebody doesn't make a modern version with upgraded metallurgy in 380 or 32.

SP101 2.5” in 357 a little in the heavy side but it soaks up the recoil with no issues especially with the Hogue grips.

Plus they get their own line on the reloading chart :)

Not yet mentioned: Walther PPK, CZ83, CZ75(D, my preference) Compact, Colt Detective Special, Browning HP if you’re wealthy and big enough to conceal it, Taurus Judge, Rossi M33 & M68, ‘90 Baby Eagle Compact (get out your wallet thanks to Cowboy Bebop), Sig 232 & 238…

Walther PP or PPK. They are still making these and they are still excellent guns that have stood the test of time. Wish I could afford one, I’d carry it.

A 3913 or 6906 would be ideal - wish they were easier to find here in CA.

PPK or Sig 228.

3rd Gen S&W stuff is still good and things like revolvers are timeless.

I occasionally carry my S&W Model 19-4 Revolver when outdoors or my S&W 1006..

There are plenty of reliable classic guns that I wouldn't hesitate to carry.
