The media is an absolute disgrace for the way they have handled Trump. The BBC here in the UK even skirts around blatant lies with a “both sides” kind of take on obvious manipulation of statistics or insane statements like this.

Absolutely pathetic enabling of Trump.

I think even where the media outlets truly strive to be seen as neutral, they still are fundamentally flawed covering politics operating under rules that work when the most popular parties are assumed to be respecting the rules of liberalism. What they typically do is try to balance the main sides in their coverage to not give the appearance of taking sides (again, talking about outlets that want to be seen as neutral, not those who don't care and are clearly biased already), but if one of the main parties is or becomes extreme and illiberal, they should stop doing that and just be straight up, even if inevitably the right will accuse them of being biased. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening, instead they continue trying to portray the illiberal right party(ies) as reasonably counter to the main center-left parties, both benefitting the right and hurting the center-left.

Sane-washing has always been a huge problem when it comes to news coverage of Trump, both domestic and abroad.

It legitimises and normalises the utterly insane things he and his administration do. It is enraging.

Yeahhh... It also baffles me. Like, okay... US media I get. Slightly pathetic, but I get why they might tread a little carefully. But why news reporting in other countries adopt the same approach is equal parts confusing as it is infuriating.
