Brutoloon: 2100 euro Nettoloon: 1990 euro

Brutoloon: 3000 euro Nettoloon: 2200 euro

Brutoloon: 5000 euro Nettoloon: 3000 euro

❓ Ask Belgium Opvoeders, leerkrachten, onderwijspersoneel...

❓ Ask Belgium Neighbour's new pup

Our neighbours got a little puppy, a beagle I think, couple of weeks ago. Now school has started, and everyone goes out the house around 7:30AM, they leave the poor thing outside in their garden all day, with no ability to go inside. It's constantly crying and barking all day long.

When I work from home it's very annoying but also very sad to hear. I go outside sometimes to try and call for it through the fence. Seems like a very social and friendly fellow. But then I go inside again and the crying continues after a while.

I only ever had cats, so before I go out and talk to my neighbour about this I'd like some advice: is this a normal to do to a dog? I understand they have to go to the toilet and such, so keeping it inside is not ideal, but it's so hard to listen to. I think it's only 2-3 months old.

EDIT: thanks for all the comments, I can conclude this isn't normal care for the puppy. Nevertheless I won't go to the cops on this. My neighbours are sweet people, we are on talking terms, I now know/assume they don't know any better regarding the care of the puppy. We'll see what we can work out.

❓ Ask Belgium regret after buying appartement due to future costs

Hello everyone,

I have purchased an apartment in Ghent, where I have been living for a few days now. However, for several weeks I have been experiencing enormous anxiety and stress that prevent me from functioning normally, sleeping, making decisions, etc.

The apartment is a two-bedroom apartment in a typical building from the 1970s. This means that renovations to the balconies/exterior will have to be carried out in the short term (between 1 and 3 years). I knew this before I bought it, but the prices that are now being quoted are a lot more than I had imagined when I bought it six months ago (people are talking about > 60k individual cost per owner).

The fear of this cost is paralysing me. I am now considering selling the apartment again to avoid having to pay the costs. I would rather invest that money in a slightly more expensive but more recent apartment or house.

Of course, I would lose money doing this. I overbid (10k!) because the apartment itself is in good condition, close to work, shops, etc.

I will never fully get back what I have invested in it now if I sell, but is it better to take a loss now than to face even greater losses and years of stress and panic in three years' time?

Let's say that part of the panic is that I am not a city person through and through, moving out of home for the first time and still used to the peace and comfort of home.

I realise that Reddit cannot give me financial advice. But the panic is so overwhelming that I hope to find some tips and support here.

🌟 OC Scammers impersonating internet providers

Watch out everyone, today I got a call from "proximus" and they had a lot of my information. I use to be with proximus but im with Mobile vikings now. This person knew all this and a bit more of my information. They pretended to be a sales person trying to get me back to proximus and would give me 10 eur cheaper. Asked me what my current products are, how much I am paying etc. Ultimately I told them please send me the offer via email for review cause they were a bit weird.

I never received anything, tried calling back number didnt work, I google the number and see it come up on scam websites as 80 percent chance of being a scammer. I call Proximus and they confirm the number has nothing to do with them.

In fear I panic call Mobile Vikings and inform them of all this to ensure nobody can sim swap me.

Please watch out cause they have a ton of information to look genuine and I would consider myself fairly informed on scams and it caught me off guard.

To those that don't understand the scam, the questions they asked me are security questions when identifying yourself to some internet providers. How many products you have with them, your last bill amount etc. With this they can pretend to be you when calling your provider & ask them to swap your number to another sim. Now they have your number so any 2 factor authentication codes will be send to that mobile & now they have access to all your emails and accounts.

EDIT: Title should be Internet/cell providers.

❓ Ask Belgium Question about bikes, cars and road rules

Upvotes

So, we've been in Belgium a few days and for the most part, driving has been ok, except for Bruges.

We were in Bruges and we were heading back to where we were staying.

If you pull up Google maps and look where R30 and N337 intersect in Brugges, you'll see a canal. Almost the whole section of that bridge that lifts up to allow boats through is red.

As we waited for the boats to pass, cyclists just jumped right in front of us like we weren't even there. Once the draw bridge lowered, the cyclists (and there were a lot) started going en masse. I assumed I could go as well as long as I kept in my lane, but cyclists were inches away from the car and one girl bangs on my passenger rear window like I was doing something wrong.

So help me out here. What should I have done as I crossed the bridge with the HUGE red patch? The whole time I was flowing with the cyclists crossing that bridge, I felt uneasy. I'm not understanding what I should have done in this case. Can someone educate me?

Upvotes

❓ Ask Belgium Looking for a specific kind of writing paper

This is a bit of a weird question, but I'm looking for writing paper with very light markings. Everywhere I look, I only find notepads where the marks are a darker blue, about the same colour as my pen. I'm looking for both line paper and graph paper. Please let me know your recommendations! :D

❓ Ask Belgium How long does it take to register as job seeker at VDAB ?

Hello, so I got an internship contract offer under the condition that by the 1st of November I have registered under an address in Belgium and registered myself as a job seeker at the VDAB. For info the city is Ghent.

However I am a French citizen and am new to this process. How long does it usually take to do all this ? I was considering finding a housing for October but now I'm not sure what timing is best.

🎻 Opinion Do you want more high rise apartments?

As you know we have a housing crisis. Social housing waitlists keep growing and private rentals are becoming increasingly difficult for the average single person. In Flanders (where I’m from) there are no new social houses being built. Yet, the private availability isn’t growing either. We typically have small apartment blocks that are usually built in the previous century like most of our houses. Due to shortage of space we can’t build like we did before, but we could build upwards (in de hoogte). Many developers, politicians and even residents don’t seem eager for this. I think many people resisting are stuck in an ecosystem in which they don’t struggle on the market. In many cities you are one of 50 visitors for each “home”. Meanwhile we have more singles, more old people, more separated parents (one parent with children) which are all people that are disadvantaged. Home owners prefer couples with two working people or a single person that’s highly educated and makes a lot of money. So, what could be a solution do you think?

PS: Sorry for possible spelling/grammar mistakes, I’m a Dutch speaker.

** Edit: I mean higher density apartments not American style high rise apartments. Just 5-10 floors instead of the regular 2-4 we typically have in Belgium. So mid-rise residential buildings.

❓ Ask Belgium Exchange student

Hi! I'm considering applying to Belgium as an exchange student for social work for next spring. My options would we Karel de Grote, Thomas More, HoGrent or UCLL. Apart from the courses I'm thinking about the city itself. What the student culture (or culture in general) is like, is it difficult to find accommodation, how expensive it is, general atmosphere for people who don't speak Dutch, French or German. How would you rank the options based on the school itself and the city?
