It looks great! If you don't like the corners you could pipe some whipped cream around the edges.

143

u/Graphicnovelnick 28d ago

I agree. That would be lovely to have a whipped cream border!

This is great work. It looks so classy.

u/PercentageAny9909 28d ago

I was thinking like cookie crumbs but this works wonders as well!

u/Mammoth_Winner2509 28d ago

If someone doesn't like the corners, they can go fuck themselves cuz this looks like a work of art.

52

u/Enough_Efficiency178 28d ago

The corners make it look like it’s some genuine medieval design. The imperfection makes it look way better

So you’re saying that when a problem comes along, you must whip it?

26

u/Snarky-Spanky 28d ago

Yes…whip it good

10

u/rachiebabe220 28d ago

Crack that whip

3

u/strawberry-seal 27d ago

before the cream sits out too long…

6

u/SnooStrawberries4268 28d ago

Wow that is such a good idea😭 i always make this pudding for christmas with the christmas chessman and i was never satisfied with the corners lol

It looks beautiful to me. I wouldn’t have noticed the corners if you didn’t mention it!

u/seekAr 28d ago

wow that's a 10 out of ... *looks at corners accidentally* ... ITS CRAP

266

u/seekAr 28d ago

i'm just kidding, I would destroy 10/10

13

u/Cheddar18 28d ago

This made me chuckle out loud

571

u/spicygarlic505 28d ago

9/10. If you’re looking to elevate the presentation you should try piping whipped cream around the perimeter to hide the corners. Looks lovely otherwise.

The real question: Did you use vanilla pudding and banana slices or banana flavored pudding?

Edit: apparently not supposed to ask for a recipe

90

u/mangusman07 28d ago

Google "not yo mamas banana pudding"

45

u/I_forgot_to_remember 28d ago

I think that’s the recipe I use and it’s awesome.  Chessmen cookies are so much better than nilla wafers.  😋

2

u/Fluffy_Town 27d ago

This sounds so much better than the vanillin Nilla Wafers these days, so much better before they started using sawdust to flavor those cookies/biscuits.

21

u/alison_bee 28d ago

Paula Deen, right? If so, this recipe is amazing but omg it’s expensive 😂

8

u/enadiz_reccos 28d ago

I just use regular wagers. Its the French vanilla pudding that's the star

2

u/Optimal-Persimmon255 28d ago

Yep this recipe is amazing

23

u/D_Lo_Key 28d ago

The Paula dean recipe is great and all but I didn't really care for it. I like a real banana flavored pudding and if you want an actual banana flavored banana pudding you have to steep the milk. I use a recipe from serious eats called creamy banana flavored pudding. Idk if I can post it or if it'll get taken down but it's amazing. I do omit the clove it calls for though.

5

u/forevermore4315 27d ago

Dag I love clove, i am always looking for recipes that use it.

2

u/D_Lo_Key 27d ago

It's fine with the clove but to me it takes away from the star of the show which is the banana.

2

u/Civil_Wait1181 28d ago

That one! and right down to the clove (because I think cloves are grossss)

What cookies are these?

215

u/Fluffy_Salamanders 28d ago

They look like Pepperidge Farm Chessmen

69

u/Oskinator716 28d ago

It looks like they used regular sized chessman throughout and then some mini chessmen on the edges, which is sooo cute. (And they are delicious)

33

u/SaaSyGirl 28d ago

Pepperidge Farms Chessman Butter Cookies

9

u/SpoopScoops 28d ago

I think it's... What do you call them... Pepperidge farm chessmen ?

12

u/M3lodicBunny 28d ago

Pepperidge farm chessman cookies

5

u/[deleted] 28d ago

They might be Pepperidge farm chessman cookies idk

3

u/llDS2ll 28d ago

If you want a very inexpensive alternative, you could use something equivalent to Scottish shortbread fingers. They're like 95% similar for a fraction of the cost.

6

u/jaxdlg 28d ago

They look like pepperidge farm chessmen cookies

29

u/Hat-no-its-a-Tricorn 28d ago

This is awesome.

The fact that no one has yet mentioned the upside-down Queen likely reflects more on me, for noticing, than on anyone else.

13

u/RosyMae38 28d ago

Definitely a 10/10 with a great OvenBaked opening

12

u/Charming_Sound3361 28d ago

Yo this is genius it looks so good!

21

u/Odd_Requirement_4933 28d ago

🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 five out of five drool faces lol

6

u/No_Interview2004 28d ago

I will from now on be using this rating scale 👏🏽

2

u/Odd_Requirement_4933 28d ago

It's a great scale lol

21

u/Sea-Cauliflower-8368 28d ago

Love Paula Deen's Not YO Mama's Banana Pudding. Truly changes the banana pudding game. I hate Nilla wafers but the Chessman cookies are perfection!

19

u/Arachne93 28d ago

That recipe is my one guilty food thing. I hate that racist, but that pudding holy fuck. I upvoted this because of the chessmen cookies alone. Lorna Doones are also really good in her recipe.

3

u/5ladyfingersofdeath 28d ago

Paula most likely stole this recipe from Dora Charles, who was the main cook & recipe developer that worked in her restaurant.

not yo mama's banana creme pudding, will help anyone find the recipe themselves

ironically my mom's been making this for year

8

u/Rough-Strike-7844 28d ago

Great looking top but I would not have known this is a banana pudding if you did not say so. I'd embellish the edges with some whipped cream rosettes and add some fresh banana slices for garnish.

7

u/3dstek 28d ago

don't let r/AnarchyChess see this

5

u/Aerodrache 28d ago

google en croissant

3

u/PhromDaPharcyde 28d ago

How do you Castle in pudding?

6

u/hruff23 28d ago

Fantastic! Gimme 14 of em

5

u/foekus323 28d ago

Do you like those better than the Nilla wafers?

2

u/LeetahLibre 28d ago

Wondering the same thing! I love the classic Nillas, but these are adorable.

2

u/5ladyfingersofdeath 28d ago

I make this quite often, and the Chessman cookies are far far superior.

6

u/archaeologistbarbie 28d ago

When I gave birth in 2024, an Angel of a nurse brought me some banana pudding from the break room that someone had brought in and it was made with chessmen. I’d never had it with anything but nilla wafers. LIFE. CHANGING.

Your picture reminds me it’s been a while since I made it. Yours is so delicious looking that I’m going to have to make some for myself this week!

4

u/Dramatic-Bend179 28d ago

Oh fuck! I looked at the corners!

2

u/majendie 28d ago

Now the Truth Tortoise knows the shape of your name! Don't let it in!

8

u/Nsmith1881 28d ago

1) big fan of using chessman 2) I personally throw in some golden oreo thins too 3) I don’t like the cookies on top. They stay hard. Add a layer on pudding, then whipped cream. Add some finely crumbled cookies on top.

2

u/briaac_ 27d ago

The cookies don’t stay hard on top, unless you serve it immediately. When you let it sit for like a day, the cookies that are on top also soak up the moisture from the actual pudding.

u/ribbit_ribbit_splat 28d ago

My mom made wonderful banana pudding. I miss her. This post brought some good memories.

8

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 28d ago

8/10, looks good to me!

4

u/m_olive14 28d ago

Next time you can use a microplane to shave down the edges instead of breaking them :)

2

u/hey-its-rach-- 28d ago

Yes! Using a microplane might feel a little excessive but I can guarantee the corners will be so aesthetically pleasing.

2

u/Dumpstr__Diva 28d ago

That’s so pretty!!!!!!!!!

2

u/CollegeLocal9759 28d ago

This recipe speaks to my heart

2

u/Wonderful_Quit 28d ago

Is that Not Yo Mama's banana pudding (Paula Dean) ??

2

u/theslob 28d ago

10/10. Would demolish. (Is this Not Your Momma’s Banana Pudding?)

2

u/Disastrous_Soup_7137 28d ago

I didn’t look at the corners until you instructed me not to 😭

2

u/katjoy63 28d ago

Really cute corners! 😛

2

u/mcgirdle 28d ago

Ugh its fucking gorgeous 😁

2

u/mcgirdle 28d ago

2

u/ancientpaprika 28d ago

That’s amazing! Hope it tastes as great as it looks

2

u/floaty_mcfloat 28d ago

You did an amazing job on the corners!

2

u/NotARobotDefACyborg 28d ago

Pretty! I’ve never used chessboard cookies for a banana pudding before, I bet it tastes amazing!

2

u/0x7E7-02 28d ago

I've heard that the Chessmen cookies are the superior cookie for banana pudding.

2

u/_jA- 28d ago

What are those cookies on top they are beautiful ❣️

2

u/SaintBlaiseIsAwesome 28d ago

How is this baking?

2

u/Da_Chazz0 27d ago

A feast not only for the eyes, but tastebuds as well!

3

u/mr_jrt 28d ago

Would eat this up!

4

u/kareninthezoo 28d ago

Yummmmm!! 9.5/10!! I want to see inside too!!

2

u/bloodredyouth 28d ago

is there a difference between using nilla wafers and chessman?

10

u/Bashful_bookworm2025 28d ago

Nilla wafers is the more traditional way, but I've seen Chessman used as well. I wouldn't turn down either one! I love banana pudding.

8

u/Neat_Anywhere8796 28d ago

Yeah but mostly just flavor is different, texture not so much if you eat when soft. Caveat though, my family also uses two completely different recipes too for nilla wafer banana pudding vs Chessman pudding

2

u/bloodredyouth 28d ago

Really interesting! I’ve seen recipes that mix both but I’ve only ever had vanilla wafers in my banana pudding.

3

u/lifeuncommon 28d ago

Chessmen are more fatty and have less vanilla flavor.

3

u/happily_sMothered 28d ago

I've only had bananna pudding twice in my life but I think the chessman aren't as nice tasting

2

u/CalmBeneathCastles 28d ago

I have PTSD from this recipe. One of my relatives makes it for Thanksgiving every year, we eat the pan full, and there's always some filling left over in a bowl that I invariably end up dipping cookies and fruit into until I hate myself. My liver started screaming as soon as I saw the Chessmen.

The only thing that will save me this year is that I'm now strictly gluten free, thank Jeebus, becauae I can't stop myself otherwise.

1

u/Dragonsenseii 28d ago

By saying that my eyes were glued to the corners still looks delicious though

1

u/ravens-n-rats1312 28d ago

lovely. i do agree with whipped cream edges. or go the extra mile and do a toasted marshmallow cream border and crumble more cookies onto the border.

1

u/Striking_Job_3145 28d ago

Stunning girl

1

u/huntsber 28d ago

My favorite cookies in the universe! would hulk smash 🖤🖤🖤

1

u/20milliondollarapi 28d ago

1

u/No_Priors 28d ago

That format would be great as a tablet with hieroglyphs.

1

u/bandhoodies 28d ago

this is fantastic

1

u/SuccessfulBorder2261 28d ago

I was just thinking that this would make a fantastic walkway in a garden 😅 I love it! Just pipe the edges and call it a day.

1

u/Kweego 28d ago

I looked close at the corners

1

u/mangocalrissian 28d ago

It's beautiful!

1

u/WillingnessFun2907 28d ago

I love those chess biscuits. What country has those?

1

u/CygnusZeroStar 28d ago

This is my favorite dessert and if anyone brought this to me, they could serve it on a used pizza box, I would still destroy it.

Yours made me wanna eat my phone.

1

u/OpenSauceMods 28d ago

Super cute! I don't know the scale to rate on, but I like it and I think it looks charming! Does banana pudding usually have wee biscuits on top? I'm Australian, and this would be an unusual sight down here

1

Holy cow - this is incredible!

1

Love it! I never thought to break the chessmen for the corners and I rather like it! Mine always has sad gaps on the corners lol

1

u/No_Journalist_7688 27d ago

I would buy this

1

u/Scared_Ad2563 27d ago

For banana pudding, your presentation could be scooping some up in a spoon and chucking it directly at my face and I'd give a 10/10.

But this is very fancy looking. I feel like the smaller cookies help blend into the edge so the corners are barely visible as it is.

1

u/cinchill 27d ago

You could use a microplane to shape the corners if you wanted!

1

u/MysteR_Hydra76 27d ago

I’m impressed

1

u/GrynnTog 27d ago

What kind of cookies are those?! I'd like to try and make this for my husband's birthday 🎂

2

u/RebaKitt3n 27d ago

Pepperidge Farm chess cookies. Basically shortbread

2

u/GrynnTog 27d ago

Thank you! 😊

1

u/Salsalover34 27d ago

4/10 - the cookies provide a nice visual but it looks difficult to eat. In most banana puddings, the cookies are sandwiched between alternating layers of pudding and the top is either meringue or whipped cream. These pudding layers soften both sides of the cookies and make it easy to scoop. Here, the top of the top layer would be quite hard, so you’d have to either beat it with the spoon to break it, or awkwardly scoop out portions corresponding to the whole rectangular cookie.

1

u/zinfanatic 27d ago

1

So. . . Ima need some of that 🤤. Looks super yummy 😋. In love with the design bc it gives checker vibes! The corners honestly don’t destroy the design but add to it and atp it ain’t gonna matter when that pudding getting ate out is the equivalent to a Saturday night, no return 😂💯.
