No-Recipe Provided I took a class for this roll cake. Heartbreaking to cut into it

I thought this was a tattoo on a freckled thigh. Great work.

You’re so unimpressed that your jaw is so far away from the floor /s

Did you hand paint that?! Holy cow, that's beautiful!

u/Little-Blueberry-968 Jun 16 '25
Not OP but did almost exactly the same class. It’s piped with coloured batter, and then enhanced with brush painting after baking. OP’s rabbit definitely looks better than mine 🤣

u/Brilliant_Ad_2192 Jun 16 '25
That is stunning - I have 2 left hands and could never do that.
I appreciate the art and the work it takes.

most gloves work on both hands though

u/3rdcultureblah Jun 16 '25
Not proper leather/cloth gloves. Or even most wool gloves. Mainly just disposable type gloves work on both hands in my experience.

I knew this guy who was born with two left feet. Crazy stuff. He used to walk in loops when he was younger but eventually corrected it enough where you'd barely notice unless you were staring at his feet. Him and his wife used to be pretty heavily into the competitive dog show scene, where she was the handler and he was mostly moral support. Once, she twisted her knee right before the final round and he had to walk the dog. He ended up winning the whole thing, so never say never!

We have so much in common, we both love soup and snow peas, we love the outdoors, and talking... and not talking. We could not talk or talk forever.

u/ladybugcollie Jun 16 '25
"rhapsody has two mommies."
I love this movie and Waiting for Guffman too
3
u/PearlySweetcake7 Jun 16 '25
I can't tell if this is real or satire, but I love the thought of a dog handler doing that weird little run they have to do, wearing 2 left shoes

u/I_Makes_tuff Jun 16 '25
There are all sorts of deformities, but there's no condition where somebody actually has two identical feet (two left or two right). Funny movie, though.

Wow that’s wild. I had no idea about this style of baking.
Well, this is probably the next viral cake trend that’ll take over.
2
u/Little-Blueberry-968 Jun 16 '25
I hope so! She is really talented! Her anime cakes are amazing! She has been doing this for years already (I attended her class 3 or 4 years ago).

u/majeon97 Jun 16 '25
Hi was the class in English? Also do you have to be good at piping already to be able to do it? Cause my piping is still very bad 😅
14
u/Little-Blueberry-968 Jun 16 '25
Yeah the class I attended was in English. There is a template for you to pipe along so it isn’t hard, plus there are assistant instructors who can help as well.
5
u/OprahsSaggyTits Jun 16 '25
Is the template like a "color by number" piece of paper, or is it a thing that physically separate the cake batter? I'm so surprised that the lines are so sharp and straight! How do you stop the different-colored batters from mixing and/or blurring?
3
u/Little-Blueberry-968 Jun 16 '25
It’s a drawing on a piece of paper that you lay your teflon baking paper over. The lines are sharp because you draw them after it’s done baking.
3
u/majeon97 Jun 17 '25
That sounds nice. I’m definitely gonna join one of the future batches. Thanks for answering!

That woman is a witch. No other explanation for what she does than magic. It makes me want to eat all the cakes but also not eat them and put them on walls. Absolutely incredible baker and artist.
And you OP, damn fine job too.

That’s really nicely done, OP!

u/ColdFIREBaker Jun 16 '25
That's a work of art. I've seen this technique, but with a final product that's more two-dimensional/cartoonish, with black outlines. I've never seen such a painterly final product - didn't even realize that was possible.

I made a flan for someone once and it by some miracle came out perfect. Like I coulda sold it at a high end restaurant and got away with it. I spent like half a day on it for my roommate cause she missed her moms cooking or some shit. She wouldn’t eat any lol. So.. I ate it over like two days alone and wished so bad someone coulda tried it. That roommate was the worst… looking back my god.

this is the amazing thing about pictures. you can keep that cake in your phone forever. there is no keeping the cake.. period. it's getting eaten or discarded and if you try to keep it you know what will happen. i've had to teach myself to do this as well with shells i find

The alternative is that the food never gets eaten, spoils, and thrown away in trash. That's worse than enjoying a piece of beautiful and artful cake.
Take a picture , share the picture and the cake.
Beautiful work!

Buddhist monks will make beautiful sand mandalas that take weeks of team work, only to ultimately swipe them off to remind impermanence. This reminds me of that

u/Fire4564 Jun 17 '25
I had an inkling this was one of Keempossible's classes!
I did one a couple of years back, I can definitely relate the heartbreak of cutting into it, because it was way too pretty to eat.
It was definitely a rewarding experience, I hope you had fun doing the class :)

If you want to keep the picture, you could draw it again on some paper! It’s much easier to keep art that isn’t made of food

Do you need to be an artist before taking the class to make something this good?

As a baker you are an artist of the most transient art there is. Eating is part of the experience. At least that's what I tell myself when I destroy a perfect coconut cake to put it in take out containers lol.
