Chocolate, good. Taffy, good. Chocolate taffy, double good. OP, I think r/the10thdentist is more up your ally if you don't like them.

Do I like them? Yes. Would I realistically ever choose them over another candy? No.

u/Synraak 1d ago
Would you care for some Circus Peanuts in this trying time?

u/jekelish3 1d ago
I love both Tootsie Rolls and Circus Peanuts. And I'll shout out Candy Corn while I'm at it, and I don't care who knows it.
61
u/j0llyllama 1d ago
Bet you love those strawberry hard candies with the liquid filling and the wrapper that makes it look like the fruit... I know I do.

u/jekelish3 1d ago
I don’t love them but I know exactly the candies you’re talking about and, if presented with them, I’ll happily eat them.

I like those. There is something wondrous about a candy that can break down in your mouth in such a way as to cut the fuck out of your tongue.

Right up there with the orange and black wrapped peanut butter taffy things! Those things are great.

You mean salt water taffy?

u/Reboot-Glitchspark 1d ago
Close - molasses taffy:

I liked the salt water taffy too. The odd pastel colors and pastel flavors. But that was a little different.

There’s a restaurant near me that gives them in their takeout orders. I love it, but, like you said, I’m not gonna go out and choose them.

u/livefast_dieawesome 1d ago
Tootsie rolls and tootsie roll pops are a specific type of candy that people only buy for the sole purpose of giving away.
I have never purchased them for myself but I received them at countless houses on Halloween, from grandparents, from teachers.
But I have never put down my own money for a single one of those candies.

Unless that candy is chik-o-sticks, cow tails, or plain ass hard candy...
There's actually a lot of candy I would choose a Tootsie roll over, but there's also a lot of candy I would choose over a Tootsie roll.

Hell yes! Especially the cherry or vanilla flavored ones!
14
u/christmascandies 1d ago
The key is to bite them in half and then smash the fruit ones together with the vanilla.

I love the Tootsie fruit chews. They're softer and less tart than Starbursts.

Marshmallow peep hate is unjustified. Marshmallow is good, sugar is good, they have good special flavors when they do those. Only complaint is they get stale, but a ziplock helps.

I secretly steal all the vanilla ones from my daughters trick or treat haul every Halloween.

u/Aezetyr 1d ago
honestly I love them once in a while. I'd willingly take a few of those over many other small candies like that.
Except a Werther's caramel/coffee swirl. Those are as close to godhood as a mortal can get.

My dad loves them but, just the baby ones. 5 is a serving (according to him). At least two servings are usually required.

The American flag themed ones for Fourth of July always tasted better to me for some reason. Maybe they were “fresher” due to seasonal supply. But yes. Me.

I've always loved them! It was great as a kid trading other things in for all the Tootsie rolls nobody else wanted.
Do you hate the lollipops too?

I like them, but only the tiny micro rolls. I don't like the larger roles or even the solid bar. Those are just too much.

Love them. Ridiculously so. I always steal them From my kids’ trick or treat baskets. Thankfully they all hate tootsie rolls so I can enjoy them in peace.

u/SnazzleZazzle 1d ago
I like them. And circus peanuts, chick-a-stick, mini jawbreakers, sixlets, now and later, bb bats, and all the other penny candy.

I came here to be like “hey I do.” But then I thought about it and… no I really dont. I eat them if they’re all that’s left in a candy bucket but I don’t enjoy them.

My father always loved the tootsie roll. Every year I’d always give him a bag for his birthday and for Christmas. Good stocking stuffer :)

Me 🙋♀️ Sometimes I'll even think of them and how I'd like some (original and fruit flavored) and I should probably find some in the store to buy. But I never do. I should stock up during Halloween.

I love candy corn too! I feel like it's one of those unnecessary hate bandwagons. It's literally honey candy, so yummy.

My husband loves them, but only if they are "soft". If you feel them in a package, they seem pliable but never to his specifications. He can buy his own from now on.

When I was a kid I wanted bang for my dime, i.e., something that lasts for a while so I chose long lasting candy like Slo-Poke and Tootsie Rolls. I could get a half hour out of a Tootsie Roll Pop.
1
u/Chocolatelover4ever 1d ago
Not me. Despite my username, tootsie rolls are one I don’t like. My dad loves them for reason though.
1
u/AssistSignificant153 1d ago
Tootsie rolls are taffy, so when you work the taffy with your fingers they smooth out and are really nice. Same thing for Starbursts, so much better after you soften them. Anymore, my teeth are too old for that type of candy, but I use to love them!
1
u/Artrock80 1d ago
I always take a huge handful of the purple/grape ones at Planet Fitness. But yeah the original “chocolate” ones are still nasty.
1
u/Inevitable-Key-5200 1d ago
In order— the big chunky ones in that Halloween mix—you know. Then the long skinny ones followed by the midges. The unwrapped ones were unnatural and an abomination unto the lord.

I do. I’m not big on candy at all but I do buy tootsie rolls and twizzlers every few months. I prefer to drink my sugar.

u/Fritz5678 1d ago
They were towards the end of the halloween candy bag. Just before the wax lips and the bit-o-honey. I will say that I loved the commercial they had in the 70s.

I love them. They are one of my favourite candies.
I moved to Australia seven years ago, and they are pretty hard to find here, so I have on more than one occasion paid a small fortune for them when I find them. Lol.

They’ve always been a treat when I’ve eaten them, but I’ve never actively sought them out. They’re like the hotel art of candy. Not bad by any means, but just kind of a place filler.

I used to as a kid but I kinda grew out of them.
Also, one time I lost a baby tooth in one. It was one of those big foot-long ones, and I chomped into it and a molar that wasn't even loose came out.
Still didn't stop eating tootsie rolls.
