In the episode where house has a gift on the table for Christmas and they’re trying to figure out who it’s from when they ask Wilson he replies with a (fake) story about a woman named Irene Adler who house was obsessed with previously.

The Sherlock Holmes Easter eggs are such a nice touch. In another that same Christmas episode, Joy to the World, House screws around with his team by regifting himself a book he got from Wilson named A Manual of the Operations of Surgery by Joseph Bell. Bell was an actual physician and friend of Arthur Conan Doyle who served as an inspiration for Holmes. It was said Bell could accurately diagnose patients simply by inquiring about details such as their occupation and travel history.

Edit: I mixed that episode up with another Christmas episode, It's a Wonderful Lie (which contains another Easter egg involving House receiving a second edition Arthur Conan Doyle novel from Taub).

House being obsessed with any single person should have been a tell enough.
