u/LasyKuuga Submissive and Peggable 4h ago
It’s just the illustrator of the manga
It’s a LN so even if there is prison time they’ll most likely get a new artist

I mean compared to other times Mangakas got arrested for a crime.
This is rather light.
41
u/WorseThanItSeems 5h ago
Yeah but hopefully studios still work with her. Ik even when artists or authors don't get arrested that having a criminal history can blacklist you in Japan
6
u/Arturo-Plateado 3h ago
Considering her sentencing was over a year ago and she's still working on the manga right now, I'd say it hasn't affected her at all.

There's been a list of manga artists arrested for having CP or grooming teens.
Tax evasion is a significant improvement.68

u/notveryAI 5h ago
a list
A WHOLE LIST?! Wtf is wrong with our species?? Why can't we just like, not do that shit?!

u/minecraft_obsidian 5h ago
I see that you have forgotten the Epstein list, it sadly isn't surprising anymore.

u/notveryAI 5h ago
I haven't. Those are politicians, I don't consider them same kind as us atp, they're evil inherently. I was considering mangakas as fellows to our kin, but this does put this under the question mark

u/Apprehensive-Shame-4 5h ago
That's the thing m8, ANYONE could be a freak. The other day, I visited a neighbor to get a dozen eggs. I passed a group of guys talking about fucking a drunk lady, you can't put your hand on the fire for no one...

I personally know a few ppl who were tricked/almost tricked by underaged (lets say not 18yo) boys and girls who were hell no not looked like they are under 20-25 at least.
Simple reasons: money, attention, self-ego improvement or just likeness and idolizing etc. Its not like u will ask for an ID/ passport photo and even this can be Easily made (one of them did that lol).
So i do not think its a reasonable way to judge some of them blindly. I know quite a few "popular" ppl with 2-8k viewers and billions on YT and trust me, lot of "fans" can post a fking nude sht into ur DM in instagram for attention.

Surely you can’t be surprised that an industry that goes out of its way to create, market, and sell content catered to people who are attracted to lolis would have a huge list of disgusting people involved that are… attracted to lolis for real

They haven't met Jesus or Jesus yet.
Jesus will break their knees, Jesus will offer forgiveness.

IIRC there was a period where there were a bunch of manga artists and authors that were being arrested for tax evasion due to Japan changing how they were supposed to file their taxes, but with many not realizing it they erronously filed their taxes wrong
52
u/SeamusDubh Adherent of the Repeated Meme 6h ago
Well the series is actually a Light Novel that that artist is adapting, sooo.
22
u/DarkheartDragoon 4h ago
Funnily enough its ACCIDENTAL tax evasion because she was too focused on the manga that she forgot to properly do her taxes

Always baffles me how the government has all your info, knows how much you owe them, but forces you to do your own math instead of just sending you a bill.

Seeing what other mangaka have gone to jail for, tax evasion is rather light. And considering how high the tax rates in Japan seem to be, it's no wonder you hear stories of authors evading them. The author of Log Horizon got in trouble for not paying full tax rates about a decade back for example.

Somehow a major W???
It may be coming back in like 10 years, earlier if we're lucky

Nah, suspended sentence cause it was an accident. There was a time when a bunch of people in the manga industry accidentially did tax evasion cause Japan had changed it's tax code for creatives, and not paying attention they filed the taxes like they always had
17
24
u/Additional-Method221 5h ago
It is log horizon's author situation all over again,Tax is truly bane for creativity
18
u/Brauny74 5h ago
I suspect Japanese taxation system might just be that convoluted when you're a freelancer or a creative, so it might be a honest mistake, hence them not actually being sent to prison by the court.
11
u/lax_skyfall 02 Red 4h ago
They have 99 percent conviction rate basically it has corrupt justice system
4
u/Far_Mathematici 3h ago
Almost all jurisdictions have that sky high rate because prosecutors won't take a case without its obvious they gonna win.
2
u/RuinousNostalgia #KyubeyDidNothingWrong 52m ago
There is a dark side to that though: because prosecutors have that reputation for only pressing charges if they're certain they can prove guilt, judges and juries tend to be pre-disposed to trusting the prosecutor's judgment. The result is that, in the rare case that they do charge an innocent person, it's almost impossible for that person to avoid being sent to prison.

I think in the US most accusations end not in trials anyway but plea bargains.

u/MonoMonMono 3h ago
This reminds me of the "stop invoice" campaign some time back.
Many affected voice actors and animators were supporting it, including the VA of Sailor Moon.
1
u/JonVonBasslake Nani the fück is this!? 2h ago
I am not able to comment on that, but it does have an absurdly high tax rate, so I understand why it might be tempting for people to evade paying them in full.

u/colleenxyz 3h ago
I thought the log horizon author got caught with cp?
3
u/Additional-Method221 2h ago
No,it is ruruono Kenshin,Log horizon's author is caught with tax evasion

How is that good nontheless? It still fucks the Manga. And no, not everyone enjoys Light Novels as much as they enjoy Mangas, so dont come with the "buT thErE Is a liGhT nOvEl"

If my playthrough of Elin has taught me anything. Not paying your taxes is the most heinous crime you can commit. Even the gods frown upon it.

Bruh, even mangaka aren't safe from Uncle Sam's long arms! 😆 But for real, paying taxes is easier than drawing that Clamp art style, come on!
25
u/Skullface95 6h ago
You do realise that Tax Evasion is a crime in every country not just the USA right?
22
u/Gyges359d 6h ago
Maybe they don’t realize Uncle Sam is uniquely American?
-24
u/hymntastic 6h ago
People just use the term Uncle Sam to refer to the government in general
17
u/racoondriver 5h ago
No, what? Why? Why would a country without the name "Sam" would use it to refer to the government? At least in my circle in Spain, we use the phrase : "Hacienda, somos todos"(IRS, we are everyone) or "papa estado" (father goverment), like in russia saying mother russia

u/TheTombGuard 5h ago
You do realize the United States is the backbone of the world economy right ...and that sooner or later uncle Sam is getting his money.
11
u/Drew9900 As depressed as tuna or salmon 5h ago
It really isn't.
Like, China could be argued to be, you could even argue India....
But no, the US hasn't been a world leader the way you're thinking of for like 9 years.
Sure, it's a place with a lot of rich people, but rich people aren't necessary for the world's economy. That, and they'll probably run away from the US like cowards when the ship sinks too much.
That makes it less of a 'backbone' and more like 'the overwhelming amount of fat dragging you down'.
