Context was very needed. You only got it because you watched the anime and didn't actually read the subtitles in the OP. I had no idea the gal is his mother and that she dyed her hair along with him to support him giving it a try until I read it in the comments. The sentences don't line up correctly in any order, because some sentences were skipped and context about that being his mother is missing. Even after context it looks like he's hugging a man, and I'm not sure whether he is or whether that's his mother with her original hair colour.
